Barack Obama can still draw a crowd in Seattle.
The president, who packed KeyArena during the 2008 campaign, appeared before more than 10,000 people during an event at Hec Ed Pavilion on the UW campus Thursday for Sen. Patty Murray, who faces a stiff challenge this November from Republican Dino Rossi.
Obama and Murray took the stage together. While Murray spoke, the president drifted near her right elbow, jacketless with shirt sleeves rolled up. He nodded, crossed his arms, clapped and cheered along with the crowd.
"My opponent, he's running on what he wants to take away from you. My opponent has staked his entire campaign on one word: No," Murray said.
Obama told the crowd: "We need you fired up."

Those at the front of the line reported they arrived in the early-morning hours, around 6 a.m, for most. Josh Ritchey, a recent high-school graduate from Olympia, left home with a group of friends during the middle of the night to make it to Seattle early. He was yawning in line Thursday, and wishing he'd remembered to bring a coat.
"We left our houses in Olympia at 2:30 this morning," Ritchey said.
