Senator McCaskill's brother arrested for coke.
"The brother of U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill faces a felony drug charge stemming from a January incident near a Columbia nightclub he co-owns.

Court documents from Boone County Circuit Court show 46-year-old William McCaskill was found unconscious Jan. 5 outside Jimmy John’s, 1019 E. Broadway, near Generic, his nightclub. He was originally unresponsive when contacted by officers and appeared to be highly intoxicated and disoriented when he regained consciousness, documents indicate. "

This isn't all that surprising, coke has run deep and wide in the Columbia drug scene for a long, long time. Frankly though, I'm surprised he actually got popped for this, and am wondering who he pissed off. A lot of other club owners in the past have had to deal with various coke charges, and knew whose hands to grease, who's ass to kiss to get out of the charge, but either McCaskill didn't know these things, or simply didn't care. Hell, there was one dance club downtown that was a well known coke den, where it was bought and sold openly at the bar, but nobody did anything about the place because the owner did the right things to stay in business. I'm wondering if McCaskill thought that his family connections would allow him to buck the system.

I'm also wondering if he'll be bold enough to open up and name names. That would be really interesting, and bring down some big fortunes. We'll see.

1. Agree about the widespread use of blow in Columbia, Mo.
Back when I went to college there, there was a nightclub called Pure Lounge. They had the usual men's and women's bathrooms, but they also had a unisex bathroom in the back -- and you can imagine that no one was using it to actually go to the bathroom.

2. I remember Pure Lounge,
Wasn't in business very long, and wasn't one of egregious offenders. Remember George's and the Blue Note, that's where some of the big action was, though like you said, it was, and is, widespread.

3. Well, the Blue Note was the Blue Note ...
I mean, as the major concert venue in a huge college town, there's going to be drug use there. I always thought Pure Lounge was actually the most egregious drug den in town. That unisex bathroom should've just had a sign on it saying "Here is where you do drugs."

4. Coke is so fucking stupid.
What an asshole. Gee, I wonder how his sister feels about drug legalization.
