1. Can't remember how many years ago
there was an organization that iirc sounded as if they were for protecting SS but, they were right wing. One of FDR's son endorsed this and my Mom would get these letters and send money. At the time I didn't pay much attention to SS or that stuff. I was too busy boogying. :o

Anyone remember this or was I just smoking too much.

2. Wasn't that back in the early Bush years?
2002 - 2003? They claimed they needed to save SS, and their way to do it was to allow new workers or opt out of it, and invest in the stock market instead. This would "save" SS because the new workers' individual retirement accounts would not be a drain on the system.

It was really bass-ackwards.

3. I thought it was earlier than that but, yes I think
you're right. The thing that had my Mom believing it, was FDR's son's endorsement. It didn't sound right to me but, if it was endorsed by a Roosevelt son that was that.

My Mom scrubbed floors and worked in factories. She didn't know squat about stock market, she lived during the depression and the adored FDR. My uncle found work through the Conservation Corp. My Mom said FDR save this country nand Europe.

I still have my Mom's original SS card. She also had a picture of FDR in our living room. :)

Thanks for helping me out on that Raleigh. Regards from Apex :)

5. NCPSSM is definitely NOT a front group that secretly supports cuts...they are legit
I am not sure what organization you are thinking about, but as you can see from their policy papers on proposed cuts to SS, they are on the right side of this issue:

http://www.ncpssm.org/news/archive/myths/ (against privatization)

http://www.ncpssm.org/news/archive/raising_retirement_age/ (against raising the retirement age)

http://www.ncpssm.org/news/archive/price_indexing/ (against price indexing)

http://www.ncpssm.org/news/archive/means_testing/ (against means testing)

http://www.ncpssm.org/news/archive/ss_tax_cap/ (support raising the cap on FICA taxes)

I also follow them on Facebook and Twitter for Social Security and Medicare news and commentary and can attest they are the real deal.

4. I follow them on FB. I think they're legit. Check out the site before
you judge. They def don't subscribe to privatization and they have regularly spoken out against the fearmongering re: SS.
