I heard of one of the two that happened off my local break (surf spot). Most are pretty innocuous, and quite a few are scary to tragic.

1. Interesting site

Sharks are definitely out there.

I think the only shark I've seen in the wild was a 5 foot Mako shark about 80 miles off San Diego a few years ago.

2. And after skimming the whole page I am left with a question:

Are there more sharks at Sunset Beach and San Onofre than at other beaches in the state, or are there more surfers there who see and report sharks?

3. I think I answered my own question

Not too many people surf Mendo, Humboldt, and Del Norte, but there sure are a lot of attacks up there.
