I'm sick of congressmen & senators saying, "I've BEEN to Iraq".
As if it is somehow proof that the war is either just, or unjust, succeeding, or failing, improving or not improving, WHAT THE FUCK DO THEY KNOW?

I'm sure they are heavily protected, in the Green Zone, or like crazy mc cain they pretend it's perfectly safe to walk through the market place.

"I've BEEN to Iraq, therefore I know what I'm talking about in regard to bush's disastrous war"

BULLSHIT.

1. LOL Soldiers around me - and there are many - mock them for that
It *might* score points with folks back home but there's pure scorn in the voices of the soldiers.

2. It gives them gravitas
They go from briefing to briefing, from hardened structure to hardened structure led around by a career minded Battalion XO who gives them a whiz-bang powerpoint presenatation.

Any politician who wants to get the real feel on the ground should speak to the Corporals and Sergeants, who have pulled 2 or 3 tours. These are the men who walk the daily patrols, who man the guard posts and impromptu checkpoints and drive the convoys.

Oh, perhaps they should pay attention to the callous disregard their Blackwater or Triple Canopy Mercs show to the everyday Iraqis...

3. I remember a Dem candidate having served in Iraq and the Repukes
were saying "Oh, he was serving in the safest places in Iraq!" ... and yet when McCain goes to Baghdad with as much security as a presidential visit, he's "courageous" ... all while wearing body armor as he helps another Repuke buy a $5 rug ...

6. Yes, Paul Hackett. How true, he was judged to have been in not enough danger during his tour
by the gasbaggiest chickenhawk of all, Limbaugh.

8. Rush called him a "Staff Puke."
Frankly, that was far more offensive than "Barak, the Magic Negro."

4. Agreed-disgusting phuckers!
I had always assumed-well, at least for the first thirty or so years of my life-that we sent the best and brightest to Washington. Not so, unfortunately, only the most aggressive and mendacious.

When I was in high school, I was president of the high school debating team my senior year. We had one other guy who had served as pres for the preceding two years and was, along with myself, a founding member of the team. When I saw him last he was at Morris Harvey college, majoring in political science and aiming for a political career. His last comment to me was "I know where the money is!"

He was a rather indifferent student, as I recall, not doing terribly well even in the less challenging courses he was taking. His "passion" was making a lot of money and arguing. I am surprised that I never heard his name in connection with West Virginia politics, but a considerable number of my graduating class (1966) did not come back from Viet Nam, although, given that he also was not a very enthusiastic performer in phys ed, that probably means little in this case.

10. Well, they DO talk to Petraeus, Maliki, etc. and to the troops. They
get briefed on how things are going. I am glad they go--I think it's good for them to check it out, it helps them make more informed votes/legislation.
