Has anybody read them? Any interesting stuff that you found?
Why does the government hide this information from its citizens? It takes Wikileaks to release the documents when the documents should be availble to viewed by the public and historians after specified amount of time (let's say five years after the subject event occured).
The real smoking gun documents will never be released is the documents that discuss the discussions, e-mails, and other written correspondance that led to the build-up of the Iraq War. The government should determine whether release of the documents would result in a grave threat to national security. If a grave threat is not determined, than the documents should be released for public information.
Such release of documents would hold US leaders accountable for their actions and help Congressional and future Presidents to understand the dangers of preemptive war and hopefully, result in better policy in the future.

1. "..would hold US leaders accountable.." That's the reason they don't want us to see it. |

2. Was Dick Cheney right to leak Valerie Plaines association with the CIA |

where does our right to know end or does it ever? Also, what have you really learned from Wikileaks that you did not already know. I guess it does confirm that Bush was absolutely right when he blamed Iran for running a war in Iraq against the US. Sometimes it seems as if some progressives are voyeristic and rejoice if people die or are murdered (like Iraqis) as longs as it feeds their political agenda.

4. A perfect example of saying something that lacks true credibility and yet leaves the listener |
|
with nothing more than a few sound bites that may or may not resonate with personal political agenda's.....
1. What dick did was the same as what wikileaks is doing so you guys are hypocrites...
2. And honestly is wikileaks actually telling us anything that we did not know, seems the guy is only in it for notoriety so ignore him...
3. Bush was right....stop.....soak it in for those tire of hearing they were out and out liars....
4. Progressives really don't mind (those) people getting tortured, murdered etc as long as they gain support for their personal agendas...in effect proves they are hypocrites...
5. In the end...repubs and it's voting populace are no better than the democratic politicians and it's voting populace...
Interesting how this short response was phrased..did I get what I was supposed to get from your words?

5. The government has contempt for the public |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-23-10 12:32 PM by noise
Secrecy laws are abused to conceal corruption from the public. Authoritarian views are instilled in the public via propaganda and fearmongering in order to reduce dissent.
Edited to add:
Look at the allegations that Wikileaks is putting people in danger. Maybe it is true. What about government officials who have supported policies that put people in danger? Are they so special that their conduct is not up for review? For example look at torture. This policy has surely put soldiers and civilians at further risk. Why isn't the patriotism of torture condoning officials ever questioned?
