I want to thank my friends at DU

I'm currently at the VA Hospital in Boston undergoing radiation therapy for cancer. Without the distraction of Democratic Underground this lengthy stay would be extremely lonely and worrisome.

I appreciate your comments and recommendations on my OPs. Being acknowledged is nice. You make this stay at the VA tolerable.

... only five years older than I am (my father's younger brother).

The e-mail was to announce that both he *and* his wife are now cancer-free, after going through a lot of treatment.

It may have been through the VA. He was a flight mechanic with the Thunderbirds years ago.

That bums me up, as Dan Ackroyd would say on Saturday Night Live many years ago.
Radiation therapy is no picnic, so I hope you can get through it with less pain and anxiety than normal.

The DU forum is not much of a distraction, to me.
I'd rather see nekkid girls.
But, whenever I see one of the more active girls post here - no names please, I'm not with Wikileaks - I always imagine they are nekkid when they are posting here anyway.

I don't know if that will help you much while you go through your therapy, but it helped me get through during the Bush years.

You're a great guy to read, so I liked agreeing with what you had to say here a lot.

My brother just completed his 5th Hospital stay for Chemo..It is tough..But keep a postitive frame of mind..get out of your room..walk ..talk to the Nurses ..

My brother did well..it was tough ..but he did well because he kept laughing..and he stayed so positive..he was really remarkable..through it all..

And Friday he got word that his bone marrow was cancer free..

No one can tell you how to feel..but I swear My brother did so well because he kept laughing and joking around with the nurses ..the nurses and Docs actually had a party in the hall last week for my brother when he went home...they loved that he stayed so postitive, and the head nurses said he was doing so well because he stayed positive.

I am not saying he didn't have bad days ..he most certainly did..but through it all he kept smiling and laughing.

And the funniest thing is now happening..My brother had very white white hair..he lost it all..and now it is coming in Dark!! Well all he can do now is laugh..

If you need someone to talk to ..PM me..I hope your treatment goes well..keep fighting the cancer.
And try to find something each day to laugh about..

I will say some prayers for you to beat it!!
And I will think positive thoughts for you!!!

fighting off a nasty infection in my lungs.

I always found reading a great distraction for pain and worry.... Reading DU will certainly keep your mind in the loop of the outside world. Also watch funny movies and read funny books....The most hilarious movie I saw this year was THE HANGOVER.. My son loved the Marx Brothers when he was doing his treatments.
