Mystery of the chupacabra monster solved
Source: Mongabay

The mystery of the legendary chupacabra, a beast said to drain the blood of domestic animals at night, has been solved according to a scientist at the University of Michigan.

Biologist Barry OConnor says that most chupacabra sightings are probably linked to coyotes with mange, a disease caused by mites burrowing under the skin of coyotes.

Mange leaves coyotes with extreme hair loss similar to that described by people who claim to have seen chupacabra. Analysis of alleged chupacabra carcasses by scientists has usually turned up evidence of mange, which is caused by the same species of mite (Sarcoptes scabiei) that triggers the itchy rash known as scabies in people.

Domestic dogs have been associated long enough with humans to evolve the ability to fight off mange, but wild dogs—foxes, wolves and coyotes—have not.

2. Whew! I am so relieved.
I've been kept sleepless for years because of fear over the chupacabra mystery.

Now I know that it is really just a diseased, hairless dog ... it is going to be so nice to get a full night's sleep again.

Thanks for posting this important information.

I think to scare me, cause my irrational brain is afraid of "ghosties" as my mom still likes to call them. Show me how they rig it.

Just a few here from YouTube and if you search blogtalk shows where they interview former members who have quit or got fired you'll get even more details.

I think the way all these wanna-be amateurs do their investigations is so laughable. If you are investigating a witness's story don't you have to act like a witness?

The witness tells the team, "Every afternoon when I start dinner a ghost walks through my kitchen". If I was a serious investigator I would be there in the afternoon, in the light, whatever the person does and emulate it if I want to have the same success. If I was an idiot I would wait until dark, shut off all the lights and stumble around with night vision. I noticed on all the ghost hunting shows not one witness says they walk around in the dark and they see ghosts.

If you want to see what a witness sees then act like a witness.

26. I had to laugh out loud at one of their promos
Late night, dark house, lots of ghost-hunting equipment. In response to a strange sound, one of the "scientists" says, "Did you hear that? It sounded EVIL."

7. I have been suspecting the coyotes with mange theory was correct
for years now. I mean, dogs with mange can look really grotesque and scary, and uneducated peasants are not gonna have the experience or knowledge to recognize that, especially in a nondomestic animal.

24. They found a totally hairless one dead in the road in a northern suburb of Houston
a year or so ago. It was very creepy looking. I think they actually had to test DNA to see what it was because without hair, it didn't even look like a coyote at all.

8. I don't believe him!
How can this scientist trample on our belief in the Chupacabra? That is like those pesky scientists that say not every word in the bible is fact.

We need the chupacabra. How else are we going to scare the little ones into making sure the goats are properly penned up at night? That's like saying there is no Santa Claus!

Then there are those of us that really believe in the chupacabra, whether it is a govt experiment gone wrong, alien pet lost on earth during a bathroom break, or an animal we simply don't understand yet.

Scientists need to learn that there are some things they best not meddle with.

I hope I don't need to use :sarcasm: for this.

23. To be accurate,
this scientist isn't trampling anything. He fails to account for the other phenomena associated with chupacabra sightings, ie; absence of blood in animal victims, puncture wounds inconsistent with canine bite marks...I would rather believe no such creature exists. But this explanation falls a far sight short of an explanation.

14. How does this justify as LBN?
The "Coyote with mange" explanation has been put forth many times over the years. No commentary on the Chupacabra, or the explanation, just on the "lateness" of this news.

That being said, thanks for a fun post on a Saturday morning. :)

19. Everyone knows that chupacabras are being bred in...
a secret lab under the face on Mars by the Reptoids and the Bilderbergers using canines and DNA from the Greys.

Their goal is to spread Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt among people until they accede to the creation of a North American Union...a New World Order, if you will.

22. ah, my ever inquistitive oldest son at 4, 5 read about the chupacabra somewhere, .... and YEARS
of dealing with this thing, that he then taught his younger brother. they would sleep with covers up and around neck, tight, even in summer, and hot because it sucked blood at neck.

i remember i once said, hey.... fiction, watch adn googled it. the first site i hit was claiming they were real, and was a real, oh fuck, to me, as i am trying to convince boys it was a myth.

so funny

will be sure to let boys read.
