State of California: Please raise my taxes!!!
Seriously. Yeah I know we pay a lot here, and the state's always claiming they're broke.

But it is broke. All state workers don't get furloughed on Fridays. The roads are falling apart in the North and in the South. I see lots of local cops, but barely any CHPs - because they've been reduced too.

And yet you have the GOP's answer to Abbott and Costello - that is, Carly and Meg - trying to get us all a tax cut. Exqueeze me?

Now, if any time, is not when we should cut taxes. We need to feed the budget - or the whole thing comes crashing down.

'Let it burn!' you might say. Well then leave - we've had enough of you GOP freeloaders who like to use our services but hate paying for them. California doesn't want you. You are but parasites on the state population.

1. You know it's funny,
The middle and lower classes all seem to be willing to pay another percent or so in taxes to "fix" things. But man ask the top 2% to pay an additional 3 % in taxes and they say it'll destroy the economy...

3. Lie down with dogs, get up with fleas.
Republican freeloaders have no principles and no sense of economics. It is cheaper to buy in bulk than buy everything individually.

4. We really do pay a lot...
A top marginal income rate of 9.3%, which kicks in at a relatively low level ($45 K for singles). A state income tax of 8.25%, which climbs to over 9% in most of the state after local taxes are added on. Nor are our property taxes any lower, unless you've lived in the same house for decades, in which case you're protected by Prop 13.

I'm a liberal, so I don't mind paying taxes. I know they pay for things I use and things people need. And I know it's a tough time for everyone, so I'll chip in my share. But sometimes I do wonder why California is in such bad fiscal shape, even with its high taxes. Is it all Prop. 13?

7. ding, ding ding !!! Prop 13 should have differerentiated those
differences. Most people who owned the property for more than a decade were probably older who moved there for the climate. They may have even bought property now valued at millions but have limited or no income. Commercial property should not get that same treatment. They still have an income stream and have the choice of "paying the price of doing business" to take advantage of where they operate or go elsewhere and have to train a new support staff.
