Missed deadlines, broken promises, and media coverage: Why?
Atrios points out this morning that Al-Maliki promised to have sufficient troops trained and ready by June 2007, so that the Americans could begin their withdrawals.

AMMAN, Jordan - Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said Thursday that his country's forces would be able to assume security command by June 2007 — which could allow the United States to start withdrawing its troops.

"I cannot answer on behalf of the U.S. administration but I can tell you that from our side our forces will be ready by June 2007," Maliki told ABC television after meeting President Bush on Thursday in Jordan.

Obviously they're not, and just as obviously, we've been promised over and over and over and over again that the corner will be turned in another Friedman Unit (i.e., six months)

While there's been plenty of negative coverage about Iraq in the mainstream media, I rarely--ok, I NEVER, EVER, hear specifics about how high-ranking officials have flat out broken their promises on when we'd be able to see "progress," by any pathetic definition of progress.

Why? Why, when it's so very easy to point out that a promise has been broken?
