WASHINGTON – Under fire from Democrats and members of his own party, Republican congressional candidate Stephen Broden sought Friday to defuse the backlash over his comments that violent overthrow of the government was "on the table."
Broden, a South Dallas pastor and first-time candidate, said he was making a philosophical argument during a television interview – not commentary on today's political climate. snip
Political reporter Brad Watson asked whether Broden's previously expressed support for "revolution" included the possibility of violence, and whether that applied in 2010.
"The option is on the table. I don't think that we should remove anything from the table as it relates to our liberties and our freedoms," Broden said, without elaborating. "However, it is not the first option."
