GOP's Mary Fallin Cites Motherhood As Key Difference Over Dem Jari Askins In Oklahoma Governor Race
EDMOND, Okla. — In her quest to become Oklahoma's first female governor, Democrat Jari Askins has amassed an assortment of professional qualifications: she's been a judge, a legislator, the head of a state agency, and a corporate attorney.

But what she hasn't been is a wife. The 57-year-old career woman, who now serves as the state's lieutenant governor, has never been married or had children. And as this historic race between two women candidates for the state's top office nears its conclusion, that gap in her biography is attracting increasing attention.

At rallies and other appearances, opponent Rep. Mary Fallin, 55, a Republican congressman, regularly mentions her new husband and their combined six children. Fallin, who had two children from a previous marriage, married a divorced father of four in November. She says her family and her experience as a businesswoman and officeholder have made her most qualified to be governor.

But remarks by Fallin at a Tuesday campaign debate, in which she cited her motherhood as a key difference between the two candidates, drew groans from some in the audience and stirred discussion about whether the emphasis on Askins' unmarried status had gone too far.

1. I'm surprised she didn't mention jesus or christianity.......
...usually they do, especially republicans!

And as a single woman who has lived in Oklahoma most of my life, the motherhood claim doesn't impress me at all!

2. Then Fallin must be very critical of Christine O'Donnell's qualifications to be a senator.
No?

3. Singilism
At its very finest.

So - I married and divorced with children person has better judgment than a woman who was smart enough to not get married for the sake of being married and having children as the next logical step . . . then getting divorced as the next logical step.

Okay - I get it - I get it. Half of all first marriages in the US will end in divorce. But what a sad state of affairs that it's BETTER to have been married and DIVORCED than to not be married at all - for a woman.

Cue: Pictures of the unmarried woman :sarcasm: playing softball and with a short hair cut :sarcasm:. I'm so sick and tired of this bullshit whether it comes from candidate, a marriage manic media source, a single woman's family, etc. etc.

I'd be more inclined to vote for a woman (like me) over the age of 35, never married, no kids: Because we tend to Go Big in life instead of settling for American Traditional :puke:.

5. Sickening, ain't it?
We're somehow "less of a woman" because we didn't get married and/or have children? I'm sick of that attitude PERIOD. I'm with you JAG. I'd rather vote for the woman who lives her life as she sees fit, rather than for some sheep who lets others dictate her course in life. (I'm not saying all married women or all mothers are like this. I'm talking about this twit in Oklahoma and her ilk specifically.)

And, as for the short hair cut, I don't look good with long hair. PERIOD. Neither do most women I know who keep theirs short. It's sad that those who try to make it into something else are too stupid to understand that.
