SurveyUSA's comment on polling California proposition 19
Edited on Sun Oct-24-10 09:00 AM by BzaDem
"Are the “Yes” on marijuana voters the tail wagging Barbara Boxer’s dog? This is more plausible to SurveyUSA than the reverse, which would be that 3-term incumbent Boxer has a unique tractor-beam in 2010 that is drawing to the polls otherwise disaffected voters who just happen to be pushing Proposition 19 over the top.

...

For the measure to pass, the constellation of uniquely motivated aging hippies and young cellphone-only’s must walk the ballot-box walk, not just talk the pollster talk. Boxer’s fate in the Senate may hinge on how many “whatever” dudes mail a ballot."

I think that's the first time I've seen a pollster's comment that was simultaneously informative and funny. Uniquely motivated aging hippies, young cellphone-only's, and "whatever" dudes, check in here!

1. I may be an aging hippie.....
..and I do own a cell-phone, but a "whatever" dude? I don't know if I like being described that way.

Whatever.

2. I think the pollster is referring to three separate groups.
Uniquely motivated aging hippies is one group, young cell-phone only-ies is another group, and "whatever dudes" (presumably people who don't normally care about politics) is a third group.

3. The anti gay marriage propositions were used to motivate RW voters in 2004
The difference is that the California "uniquely motivated voters" are marijuana users.

4. Hey, whatever works - to bring more "D's" out than "r's".
Hey California, other states may want to shift into reverse, but let us not go there!
