Republicans block LPFM bill...
In yet another travesty, a couple of puke senators are blocking a bill which would open up space for thousands of Low Power FM Radio stations...

They're doing their corporate masters' bidding -- the execrable NAB is winning again... :nuke:

1. makes sense. when they started the digital hd stuff they had extra tv stations.
did they allow new channels to take them? NO. they gave them to the existing channels. so our local channel 2 (gannett owned i think) has two extra stations. so much for free enterprise and competition. they may open them up, but they'll make sure someone who already has a presence on the radio gets those stations.

2. After seeing the 30 Pro-Rape republicans vote against Sen. Franken's
bill to protect female employees from not being able to bring charges against a slimeball outfit like Halliburton/KBR, nothing surprises me anymore.

But then again, those 30 Pro-Rape republicans have probably been molesting their daughters for years anyway. Republicans are pigs.

6. Actually the toughest thing
Edited on Sun Oct-24-10 09:49 PM by ProudDad
is that there are hundreds of christianist organizations that are ready to flood the FCC with applications for LPFM licenses (as if we don't have enough "religious" drivel going out over the air!).

So it's still going to be VERY hard for real people interested in free speech to get one!

That's why I keep the pirate option open...

8. Shouldn't citizens have access before any organized religion?
Why would we give them access -- don't get it --

Don't know what the "pirate" option is -- but do know that I only have AM/FM radio in

my car and it keeps getting more and more difficult to hear anything on my car radio if

I am in a town situation. Could it be the cell phone towers?

???

Thanks for the response :)

4. Wondered what had happened. We have a group ready to apply
and I thought last month we might have an opening coming because of the 'hotline' track. Then we hear nothing.
Had a chance to talk with my local congressman today about this issue and he was really frustrated.

5. If you haven't already, sign up with Prometheus...
That's how I keep my eye on this...

But there's always the pirate option. I had a lot of fun being able to say whatever I wanted and play whatever I wanted on Free Radio Berkeley... You could get on the air for less than $1500.00

7. But one thing that might help your group would be to organize
an internet radio operation.

That may give you a leg up when it comes time to apply for a license...

Hmmm, I have a friend who has a nice internet radio operation going -- he keeps asking me to do a show, maybe I will!!!

Check it out!
