Fiat would benefit from shutting Italian factories: CEO
AFP - The head of Italian industrial giant Fiat said Sunday the company would be better off if it outsourced all of its production from Italy, in comments that risk inflaming tensions with unions.

...

"Fiat would be better off if it eliminated Italy. Italy ranks 118th out of 139 countries in work efficiency and is 48th in industrial competitiveness," he said, without citing a source.

"For a long time now, the Italian system has been losing its competitiveness year-by-year, and over the last 10 years it has not kept pace with other countries, but this is not the fault of the workers," he said.

3. No, it hasn't.
It has formed a joint venture with Chery Motors of China, but the company is still an Italian Industrial Conglomerate.

6. Because if people wanted a FIAT poorly slapped together in a politically repressive country...
then they probably would have already purchased a Yugo, Lada, Zastava, FSO Polonez, or Polski Fiat.

I'm saying that's what they're doing, not saying it's right!

Also, if buddy from Fiat thinks Italians are lazy, he sure as hell hasn't been to China!

That said, the circumstance you describe sound alot like italy when fiat began!

8. Fiat would benefit from a new Mussolini regime in Italy.
Italy would benefit from a nationalisation of Fiat.

Mr. Marchionne, I think, is unaccustomed to operating in a country with strong unions.
