How much time do they need for such nonsense to be effective? One week out, three days out...

And do we have a rapid response team for the final flurry of lies?

Seriously... us there any data on this?

2. It's already too late in a lot of places...
... with so much early voting. I don't think anyone would withhold information this long if they had it.

11. Exactly. Early voting is under way.

But the one who can usually pull off an October surprise is the president. As usual, nothing is being done along these lines, nor along other lines, to win for our side. We're not even nationalizing the race. It's every man for himself.

4. An October Surprise (if at all) would be more likely to benefit the Democrats
Why? Because they have the government, and the other side does not. When you have the government you have more of an ability to make things happen than if you are on the outside.

5. The Democratic AND Republican parties in Alaska
filed for an injunction today to stop the Division of Elections from providing write-in lists in the polling booths. Lisa Murkowski is up to all kinds of dirty tricks here in the last moment.

Here's the ADN article about the injunction: http://community.adn.com/adn/node/153909

Also check these other stories about Murkowski funny business. Princess Lisa is not ready to give up the throne.

At this point, I'd almost favor Miller over Murkowski. She's a real sleaze. Well, they BOTH are. The only good candidate in this race is Scott McAdams.

6. I'm sorry, but tactically, why would McAdams do this?
Seems to me having her as a write-in has put him back in the hunt.

7. No, that's wrong.

You obviously don't know Alaska politics, so I will explain. Almost 60% of Alaska's voters are not aligned with either major party which means that THEY are the majority here, which is why I keep saying that Alaska is a purple state.

Joe Miller is extremely right-wing, obviously, and only won the Republican primary because of a ballot-bait measure regarding parental notification for teenage abortions which was on the primary ballot and brought out the fundies in droves. Lisa has always positioned herself as a moderate (although you wouldn't know it by her votes over the past two years, especially), and so she has been very, very actively courting the moderate independents and Democrats who are afraid of Joe Miller, votes that would have undoubtedly gone to Scott McAdams if she hadn't re-entered the race.

Miller's base is solid and isn't going anywhere. Lisa knows that in order to beat him, she has to woo away as many Democrats and independents as she can, and she's pulling out every trick in the book, including this attempt to virtually campaign within the polling booth, which is strictly prohibited by our election laws. There has NEVER been a list of write-ins posted inside the polling stations.

For some of her dirty tricks, just check out this story from a couple of days ago. http://www.themudflats.net/2010/10/22/lisa-liar-pants-on-fire-murkowski-makes-false-claims-about-endorsements/ She was forced to apologize for lying that these prominent Democrats had said they were going to vote for her, and she lied saying that she had Patty Murray's support. She didn't clear the ad with any of the people who she quoted. She is desperate.

As Shannyn Moore and others said after Lisa announced her write-in campaign, Lisa is attempting to split the sanity vote, so in reality her write-in campaign hurts Scott McAdams more than it hurts Joe Miller.

She's a weasel of the highest order, and I would do anything to see her gone.

8. But it seems like they never turn out.
Hence why you got Palin.

9. The sanity vote you're tlaking about?
Actually, Palin didn't appear at all crazy while she was running for governor of Alaska. We had just come through four years of one of the most corrupt administrations in Alaska history (Frank Murkowski, ironically) and Sarah had positioned herself as a corruption-buster through various actions she had taken in the years leading up to her run for governor.

When she appeared at the Republican National Convention and gave that awful speech, we here in Alaska had to pick our jaws up off the floor because she was so TOTALLY unlike anything we had ever seen from her before. And that's no joke. You could ask anybody here -- Republican, Democrat, Independent -- we were ALL shocked.

10. Well, I had read...
Edited on Mon Oct-25-10 07:06 PM by ProudToBeBlueInRhody
...that something like only 18% or registered voters came out for that gubernatorial election.

But, considering McCain/Palin won Alaska by a fair amount, it doesn't seem like her change turned too many voters off.

I don't mean to argue with you about your state.......I know what that's like for me today.....just questions.
