Former Fox News senior reporter says network wants to keep media polarized
Source: Rawstory.com

Fox News wants to maintain an ideological divide within the media for marketing reasons, says a senior reporter that recently left the network.

Appearing on MSNBC's Morning Joe Monday, Major Garrett explained that his former employer has a vested interest in making sure the media is as polarized as possible.

NPR fired longtime analyst Juan Williams last week after he expressed fear of Muslims in airports.

"Look, Bill, I'm not a bigot," Williams told Fox News' Bill O'Reilly. "You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."

1. Fox's major problem in keeping the media polarized
Is that the "liberal" media keep adopting Fox's positions. They're having to get crazier and crazier to stay ahead of the curve.

Major Garrett was fed up with the lies and polarization of Fake News. Good for him he left and found piece with himself. This network is a time bomb waiting to happen. Their lies will soon catch up with them. :nuke:

30. I thought the same
thing before I read a single post. I thought it because it is true. And just look at the damage it has done to the nation. We are mired in ignorance. TV could be the greatest force for education instead it is a source of ignorance.

11. This is the piece of work who "interviewed" Obama for Hannity's show
...back before the election. He was one hard-edge hateful sack with no respect then, I doubt that he's any different now.

6. Problem for Fox is that the country (and MSM) are not polarized...
There is but one "pole," that of the Right Wing (extreme to blow-it-out extreme). There is no opposition.
As far as the "left" goes, no one wants anything to do with the "left;" not Obama, not the Democratic Party, certainly not MSM.

Fox is in the biz of manufacturing controversy.

9. Ya THINK???
There's nothing like a cry of "Fight! Fight!!" to draw a crowd unless it's "They're coming for you! They're coming for you!" Both sides know that. A happy populace can't be sold things to assuage their fear and make them feel superior and reinforce the fact that their team is, after all "the Good Guys." All media plays into it and these days the info cycle is so short and the number of opportunists is so vast that all they can do is ramp it up more and more and hope we respond.

Happens here at DU all the time. It's very, very seductive.

10. Who is it that considers Faux News part of the media????
Who considers the corporate-press as part of a free press -- ???

Notice that the Bushes were always able and willing to suggest that we have a

liberal media -- sing-songing it, catapulting the propaganda --

and not much of a Dem/left wing response, if any at all -- !!

Couple of books were written -- but little directly from Democrats!

13. Only with everyone divided can the elite always have their way. It is about
divide and conquer more than it is about Right and Left. With Fox it is just about the rich and poor. They don't give a shit if the Left or Right keeps the rich getting more rich.

With the media all moving to the right, they are now out in crazy land, moving farther right and scrambling on how to stay still polarized. Hence the astro-turfed T-BAGGERS. They don't even have real positions, they are just against everyone else. The perfect stand for them, always opposed to everyone else, but actually doing nothing.

They blow whichever way the wind blows. They are comedians, for Pete's sake. That's their living.

29. If Rupert Murdoch passes away, then it is likely his son James will take over.
He already runs some of Ruperts' businesses.

Considering James Murdoch's actions - calling BBC's expansion "chilling", and marching into a rival newspapers' offices after they posted a number of billboards that simply stated "Rupert Murdoch will not decide this election. You will." - gives a simple impression to me.

27. Why is there only two sentences on the Major, then we talk about Juan Williams?
Is that the story in the title? "Former Fox News senior reporter says network wants to keep media polarized and Juan Williams does`nt like Muslims" should be the title.
