Cyclone to hit the Great Lakes region
CHICAGO -- A storm stronger than the one that sank the freighter Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975 is expected to slash across the Midwest today, snarling travel and whipping waves as high as 30 feet across Lake Michigan.

A severe thunderstorm driving wind gusts of 50 m.p.h. will move through southeast Michigan early this afternoon. The storm will bring winds of 30 m.p.h. to 40 m.p.h. Gusts in excess of 60 m.p.h. are possible.

Metro Detroit is under a high-wind warning from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today.

The storm is to reach Chicago before 10 a.m., said Andrew Krein, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Romeoville, Ill.

"The morning commute is going to be really messy," Krein said. "Visibility is going to be almost nothing at least for a short time."

The storm will be a cyclone, with projected central pressure -- a measure of its strength -- forecast at 28.35 inches. That would make it the second most-severe system to strike the Great Lakes, according to the weather service. ..........(more)

2. Just made it to work
on the leading edge. It is already horrible in the north and west suburbs. Hopefully, the worst will pass while I'm in this nice strong building for the next 8 hours.

If you do not have to go out, please don't. Find your candles and flashlights and sit tight. It's going to be a whopper.

6. Global climate change
No matter what the corporate-funded Republicon fact-hating deniers say, real scientists have long predicted events like this will be increasingly common as the REALITY of climate change hits home.

RepubliCorporate lies can change perception, but not reality.

13. Here in Minneapolis, it's been windy and rainy since last night
and forecast to continue. This reminds me of the "rain blizzards" that Oregon sometimes gets in November nd December.

Right now looks like sustaining winds around 25mph with gusts up around 50. The good thing is the leaves in the gutters are blown clean.

17. They are expecting possibly 70 to 100+ mph wind gusts at Grandfather Mountain in NC.
The weather forecaster on WCNC was talking about it. He said the pressure in the middle of the country was hurricane level low and the pressure off the coast in the Atlantic is really high. Everyone in between will be between two competing pressures and have the problems with the wind and storms.

I'm not looking forward to the next few days at all.
