Former girlfriend says Clarence Thomas was a binge drinker, porn user

(CNN) -- Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was a binge drinker who had a pornography habit or fetish in the 1980s, then changed radically when he stopped drinking alcohol, his former girlfriend told CNN on Monday.

Lillian McEwen, who dated Thomas for several years before he was nominated to the Supreme Court in 1991, provided CNN's "Larry King Live" program with a harsh depiction of Thomas. She said when they first met, he might have been a "raving alcoholic" who used pornography to help fulfill sexual fantasies, but then gave up drinking and transformed into an angry, obsessive man who bullied his son.

King said during the program that Thomas' office declined offers to comment on the topics of the interview.

Thomas almost had his Supreme Court nomination derailed when another woman, Anita Hill, accused him of sexual harassment when they worked together in the 1980s at the U.S. Department of Education and then the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

husband's character or personality that has led her to question whether he actually did harass Ms. Hill in this manner. The reason why she called Anita Hill is because Virginia feels that without Hill's apology, she will always question her husband's character and the strength of their marriage. Without Ms. Hill's apology, this will forever haunt this married couple. I think Ms. McEwen just confirmed what a lot of people already know, (including Virginia), that Clarence Thomas is scum.

28. An interesting and novel thought from a friend of mine.

She saw the show; she was married to a man who came out to her as gay after a number of years.

She thinks that the porn might have been a cover, and that stopping the drinking which left him "asexual" in Lillian McEwen's words, might have helped remove the ability to use the porn as a stimulant. She did say, in another interview I saw, that he watched the porn during intercourse.

So, just as another aside to ponder, he may be a gay man on the Supreme Court. (And possibly not the only one. The closet may have gotten a bit bigger)
