Library levy in my county... |
|
The local paper has a piece on the Library levy today, and the comments online are all very negative. "NO, NO... AND NO!" being typical.
I posted this:

Wow... the budget of the KRL is $10 Million a year.
That's a lot of money.
Not as much as the (at least) $100 Billion per year this country spends on the Afghanistan war... ($1 million X 100,000 troops.. "contractors" not included)
But then of course, we get more benefit from the libraries.
Lemme see...rough figures with no accounting for population differences.... $100 Billion divided by 50 states = $2 billion per state. So our state share is $2 Billion. 39 counties in Washington, so Kitsap county's share is $51.3 million.
Five times the library budget for NOTHING!
AND YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT $10 MILLION FOR THE LIBRARY!
WAKE UP!!!

Maybe if we were asking to raise taxes through a levy people would be just as opposed as they are to the library.

and a second try at a levy to reopen is on the ballot. All the squealing over high taxes but no one ever mentions the 50% of tax funds going to our constant war machine. Cut the waste from gov't, halve the military budget, as a start.
