What If Prop 19 Doesn't Pass?
From reports it seems like Prop 19 doesn't have a whole lot of early voting support. But ballot measures are often hard to fully understand until all of the votes are counted on election day. The negative reports could simply be an attempt to kill any support it has and give the impression that it'll lose so people won't turn out to vote. It's still likely that any young voters are not early voters and will come out only on election day. But what if it still loses? What next? Is CA a proper bellweather? Despite support among a group of people, every single politician both Democrat and Republican have come out against the measure. The system has made sure voters know where they are on this and that they'll do anything to keep it from being enjoyed legally. The system has shown no acknowledgement whatsoever of the Drug Wars failings and the hypocrisy of prohibition.

2. I'm talking about polls like this from the PPIC (Public Policy Institute of California)
http://www.ppic.org/main/pressrelease.asp?p=1056">Here

Support To Legalize Marijuana Drops Below Majority

Today, 44 percent of likely voters plan to vote for Proposition 19—the measure that would legalize marijuana—while 49 percent plan to vote against it, with 7 percent undecided. This is an 8-point drop in support since September (52% yes, 41% no, 7% undecided). Support has declined among Democrats (56% today, 63% September), dropped sharply among independents (40% today, 65% September), and remains low among Republicans (30% today, 32% September). Support has declined across nearly all demographic groups, most strikingly among Latinos (42% today, 63% September). Most likely voters say the outcome of the vote on Proposition 19 is important (52% very important, 28% somewhat important). Those planning to vote no are more likely to consider the outcome very important (67%) than those planning to vote

-----------

It seems basically like just another poll of Likely Voters because as you said no one knows the exact numbers of the early voting and no one knows what the turnout will be like on election day.

3. I have long said
that people here are unwilling to admit that they'll vote for the proposition. But just this week an anonymous poll was taken and found that 57% are in favor of 19.

It'll pass.

4. I believe it'll pass...
That's why the DEA and Eric Holder have reacted the way they have. I think they know it'll pass as well.

5. If it fails, we wake and bake, and keep on trying.

Prop 215 has pushed the envelope so far that there's no going back.

On our local oldies radio station, half the ads are for dispensaries, 420 friendly doctors, head shops, hydroponic and growing supplies etc. There's even an ad for a bookkeeping/accounting service that caters to dispensaries, to keep all their paperwork in compliance.

Our local cops regularly ignore pot use. Recently some friends of mine got shaken down, admitted they had a quarter ounce or so of pot in the vehicle, and their med cards were out of date. The cop let them go. He never asked to see the pot. He told them to have a nice day, and get their cards updated.

The horse has already left the barn on this issue. Anyway, most of the growers I know won't be complaining if prop 19 fails.

Oh....Fuck the DEA! :hippie:
