It looks like nixon's southern strategy worked. The country has shifted to the right, and it |
|
doesn't look like it will change anytime soon
Even though most of the problems we are experiencing today can be laid at the feet of the republicans, it seems that the populous want more of the same
I hope they enjoy the social security and medicare privatized, along with more of their jobs off shored

1. If the Republicons take the Congress I have faith in them, |
|
They will go too far and get voted out in 2012, they always do.

10. I am not so sure about that. They put up with 8 years of bush, and after just 2 years of Dems |
|
trying to change things they want more of the same?

2. Keep in mind always that the right wing in America is mostly made up of older white people |
|
from the boonies. That population is not the most dynamic in the country. It's a matter of time before it will shrink to the point where you'll be able to drown it in a bathtub.

4. The county hasn't shifted to the right, the media attention has. |
|
Which isn't surprising considering who owns the media.
Be careful confusing perception with reality.

11. Except both parties chase the media. |
|
I don't think the people have shifted to the right but the discourse of the political class has, imo.

12. Agreed. Sadly, politics is perception these days. |
|
Given the seemingly absolute lack of substantive discussion occurring in our country these days.

6. The nation has lost its will to do what is good for the collective citizenry. |
|
We have become firmly ensconced in camps which refuse to create constructive solutions to our nation's problems. Neither side owns the solutions or the truth. It would be interesting to see what solutions could be formulated based on approaches from both sides. There is solid ground somewhere between the two.

9. The right is morally and ideologically bankrupt. |

That somewhere in the middle stuff is jive in search of false moderation.

The country has always been slightly to the right of center.
You're probably too young, but go back to the days before Watergate and during the Vietnam war. Anyone left of center was considered a radical commie.
Nothing has really changed.
