A completely hypothetical "October Surprise"

I was watching Rachel Maddow a few weeks back and she was pointing out the dramatically increased use of predator drones in Afghanistan and Pakistan. She was wondering why the sudden surge, with attacks concentrated in a few specific areas.

This got me thinking. What if they were after bin Laden? Can you imagine the nasty shock to the GOP if a day or two prior to the election Obama announced that they had iced bin Laden? They had accomplished something Bush and the Republican's FAILED to do?.

Perhaps they already got him and are sitting on the news (the excuse being they had to verify it was bin Laden before making the announcement.

This is highly unlikely, but a man can dream.

Besides, this would be a hell of a rumor to start spreading to completely derange the opposition.

Bin Laden is dead and has been dead since probably 2003, at the latest, wouldn't that be a lovely idea? It would cause great consternation on the other side, too....how to explain that they know it's not true, because bin Laden is dead, and they know that because.......ah. Well. Interesting idea.

he would make the announcement even if it were a complete lie, then blame the CIA for "bad intelligence" afterward.
