GOP candidate: Gay marriage like marrying a table or a clock

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/10/gop-candidate-gay-marriage-marrying-table/

Republican candidate for Wisconsin Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch compared same-sex marriage to marrying a clock during a radio interview.

"This is a slippery slope," Kleefisch said. "In addition to that at what point are we going to be okay marrying inanimate objects? Can I marry this table or this, you know, clock? Can we marry dogs?

"This is ridiculous," continued Kleefisch. "And biblically, again, I'm going to go right back to my fundamental Christian beliefs marriage is between one man and one woman."

Her statements upset gay rights activists, who protested outside of the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha while she gave a speech.

1. A fine distinguishment: When I'm dying in the hospital, I don't want my alarm clock, I want my
partner by my side.

14. Its appaling that these people can't recognize that gays are human beings the same as the rest of us

What her comments are saying are basically "I hold as much regard for gays, the sanctity of their relationships, and their civil rights as I do this table, clock, and dog."

She's a bigot.

24. Why can't these people look around the world a little bit?
Canada has had legal same-sex marriage since 2003. (OK, it went national in '05, but in '03 it became legal in Canada's largest province, which meant A - that 1/3 of Canadians were living in a province with same sex marriage on the books, and B - because we have no DOMA-equivalent, any marriage performed in Ontario was recognized by all other provinces. But I digress.)

Anyway, my point: Nobody has married a table or a kettle or a pony. Nobody has advocated for legalizing human-toaster or human-puppy marriages. Nobody would take any proposition seriously - it's patently absurd. And while we're at it - no church, synagogue, mosque, temple, etc., has been forced to perform any marriages for anybody. That was true long before '03, and it's true now.

All of this is true in every country that has legal same sex marriage. Is it American Exceptionalism that keeps them from absorbing this simple fact? Or just flat-out ignorance? Because it's weird - what does it say about your beliefs about the USA if you think that Americans will start fighting for the right to marry lamps and cats, when that hasn't happened at all anywhere in Canada, Argentina, Belgium, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, or Sweden? Not to mention the American jurisdictions that allow same sex marriage?

I do not understand these people.

And then she goes and hides behind the Bible. Fuck her and I hope when she is rotting in Hell, it dawns on her that clocks and tables burn as well.
