Standing on the corner, watching all the Cars go by ---this is an electioneering report
For weeks now I have participated in small groups of us Democrats standing on busy intersections during business quitting time and holding up signs for Billy Kennedy who is hoping to end Virginia Foxx's long, self-serving and shameful run in the 5th congressional district of North Carolina.

For the length of time our permit allows we quickly put tons of signs along the sidewalks and stand there holding more of them.
We crave attention and react with "thumbs up" to the occasional horn blower who smiles and nods.

Most of the time I stand there smiling, I look into cars of people who disregard us, stare straight ahead, talk on the phone, and in general pretend to be utterly unaware that there are fellow townspeople standing there in rain or shine, giving of their time, energy and often their money to bring something important to their attention.

For a few times I could get into the spirit and try to rouse interest and all but jump up and down, while mouthing the words "Please VOTE", and point to the name of our candidate.

Yesterday though the apathy of the voters, the many thumbs down gestures from those who did look over to us, and one man with a red neck in a red truck swerving and yelling: "Go to Hell" all but did me in.

How can it be we Americans pay so little attention, are so utterly disinterested, yet mouthe things like "less government" and can't locate Somalia on a map.

I am dispirited today, and I say let the chips fall, and let the American people get the government they deserve.

I do hope and pray it will be a surprising reversal of predictions on Tuesday, and am open for the miraculous.
I'll even do this one more time, tomorrow, and I will smile and be happy and vibrant.

But in general, just between us, I'm in need to be "talked down" as Rachel used to say.
