Tony Perkins: Gay Teens Resort To 'Depression Or Suicide' Because They Know They're 'Abnormal'

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/27/tony-perkins-gay-teen-suicide_n_774580.html

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins recently gave an unsympathetic diagnosis for the recent surge in teen suicides caused anti-gay bullying: they resort to extreme measures because they're battling with the internal understanding that homosexuality is, in fact, "abnormal."

Here's how Perkins explained the issue:

"These young people who identify as gay or lesbian, we know from the social science that they have a higher propensity to depression or suicide because of that internal conflict," he says.

Homosexuality is "abnormal," he says, and kids know it, which leads them to despair. That's why he wants to confront gay activism in public schools. For example, his group supports the Day of Truth, when Christian high-schoolers make their case that homosexuality is a sin.

13. Completely agree.
I like Bill Maher's quote the other day that if your pastor has any opinion on homosexuality other than "who gives a fuck", then your pastor is probably gay him/her self.

3. Ugh.
No, asshat, there are higher instances of depression and suicide among gay and lesbian teens because of intolerant, bigoted, dogmatic, and hateful people like you. You know, those that tell them that they are "abnormal," are going to Hell, and need a cure.

Fuck you, Tony Perkins.

5. "Yeah, telling people that they're diseased and need a cure 24/7 has no effect on mental health."
Sounds like YOU'RE the abnormal one, Tony.

6. Jesus. Kids are dying, asshole, you couldn't dial back the hate a little bit?
"There's no correlation between inacceptance of homosexuality and depression and suicide," Perkins told NPR.

What an ass. Bitches like him make me very very angry. To go out of his way to say that the bullying has nothing to do with the suicides? Doesn't make any fucking sense. He's all but saying gay people should kill themselves.

Children are DYING, Perkins, and blood is on your hands. Go to hell.

I don't understand these people. I feel like I am not of the same species as anyone who would think like this.

Most of the haters end up being exposed as self-loathers.

8. Any damned fool can be "normal".
Given that this is what so many consider to be "normal", I will proudly align myself with those who are "abnormal."

9. What a big bag of silly that man is.
What a shame that he's dangerous to the lives of young people.

And of course, like every other virulent anti-gay dimwit, he probably longs to bounce on the mighty man-meat pogo.

12. are gays abnormal ?
What is normal? The usual? the average? the middle? What most people are? I am not like most people in a lot of ways and I'm proud of that. When I was in high school most people didn't go to college - I did. Most people were "protestant - I was Catholic. Most around us were kind of racist - my dad said "race don't make no difference". So I had multi-ethnic friends. When there was a fire on the roof where I taught - most ran out. I ran in to activate the alarm and check the bathrooms for stragglers. Most people are straight - I'm not. Was Einstein, or Washington or Franklin "normal"? I'll strive to be better than normal. I can endure being worse that normal but I really don't want to be "average". Whatta you think???
