Violence is part and parcel of our domestic history
Edited on Wed Oct-27-10 12:50 PM by lunatica
We don't need to conjure up Nazis or Brownshirts to compare these actions of violence. People in this country have been violent long before Hitler was even born. Teabaggers are the exact same types of people who're standing around the lynched man and the same people who lynched the woman in the second photo. The stomper is right there mentally and emotionally and wants to get that history back. That's what we're dealing with and we should be aware of it.

2. I agree with you to a point
I lived in Jim Crow Mississippi and saw black bodies hanging from a tree the morning after the Klan lynched that black person, I have a memory of watching as a black man got beaten severely by a white man because the white man was having a verbal fight with his wife and the black man was a scapegoat, while the police stood by watching unable to stop it because it would have ended their career. I lived 50 miles from where the young people were murdered for trying to register voters in Philadelphia Ms. I also lived 2 years in Germany where I got to be friends with a man who was an SS officer during WW2 and heard his stories and warnings of how Fascism Nazi style, took over his nation. I saw the results of that era in his country a few decades later. So while I agree that such history as we have with Jim Crow, we must not overlook the patterns from Italy, Germany, Spain, Chile, and other nations where elections were compromised by violence and thugs as we see today. All of it is important an each part should be used as warnings for us to be on guard not to let it overcome us today.

3. We're as guilty of atrocities as any country is
Edited on Wed Oct-27-10 01:18 PM by lunatica
That's my point. We don't need to talk as if the Nazis and the Brownshirts are being revived. Our violence was here long before Hitler was even born.

If anything it shows we have a sub-group of people who are as bad as any group of people in history. People like Profitt would gladly take us back to the good old days when white's could lynch uppity black people or gays with impunity, or when a man's rights included beating women.
