Poll question: Are You Planning On Watching The World Series?
Word is that without a big market team in the Series, viewership will be down.

Are you watching?

3. Uh, hello?
Texas Ranger in the World Series for the first time in franchise history? If they weren't considered "big money" before, they are now.

10. I said big "market," not "money."
Sporting events tend to garner better TV numbers when a team from a big TV market like NY or LA is involved.

12. The Dallas/Fort Worth area DEFINES "big market"
And it's not because of the high-falutin' antics of Jerry Jones, either. The Dallas Cowboys have brought a lot of much-needed prestige to Dallas in the aftermath of the Kennedy assassination starting with the Tom Landry era. The Dallas Stars grabbed the Stanley Cup in 1999. The Dallas Mavericks have proven themselves on the court under the unorthodox leadership of Mark Cuban. And the Texas Rangers? It's their turn now.

20. Um, DFW is 5 and SF is 6
I think that's pretty big. So what you're saying is without NY, LA, Chicago or Philly this is a small market game?

5. You mean the November Classic?
No, I won't "watch", I may see a little but I won't watch.

I was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan as a kid and also a Green Bay Packer fan growing up here in Wisconsin, but a years ago I decided that sports were just a game and didn't merit so much devoted attention. I can enjoy watching a baseball or football game for itself without getting all wound up about who wins.

8. I'll have it on in the background, and I'll pay attention when the announcers
start screaming, but I won't be glued.

Baseball just doesn't grip me the way football, hockey, and soccer do...

17. Cliff Lee is a god among men
Even if he isn't wearing a Mariners uniform anymore, he's amazing.

I'm also thinking about what happened in San Francisco in 1989. My cousin Tommy came home 20 minutes early from work that day because he wanted to see the game. He rode his bike to work every day. On the freeway. I'm so grateful he's a baseball fan, or he might not be here today.

Play ball! :woohoo:

18. DFW is a pretty big market
And the Bay Area isn't exactly small. The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area is bigger than all but New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. I've heard talk of a lack of big market teams, too, but it doesn't really make sense to me.

Other than the Yankees-Phillies series last year, I don't think there has been another series with two bigger market teams than these going back to the Angels-Giants series in 2002. The Astros-White Sox in 2005 is pretty comparable, but although Houston is bigger than Dallas (or Arlington), the Houston metro isn't as big (or as big of a media market) as the Dallas Metroplex.
