Heathens Hold the Line as California KO's Corporate Takeover
By Michael Collins
The corporate takeover of California is on hold, according to the latest polls out of the nation’s largest state. Just nine days before the election, the Los Angeles Times and University of Southern California poll shows a nearly impossible uphill battle for the big business ticket of former eBay CEO Meg Whitman and former HP CEO Carly Fiorina. Snip
People who "never attend church" will elect the next Governor and Senator
There are 1501 respondents in the sample for this variable - "How often do you attend church?" If you take the sample and create a running total starting with "More than once a week", by the time you get "Monthly or less", total of all church goers are split as follows. Brown is up only 27.75% to 27.05% over Whitman, a virtual dead heat. Boxer trails Fiorina by 2.5 points, 29% to 31.5%.
Data from Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research Oct 10-20, 2010 pages 274-5
But when those who "Never" attend church are added to the running total, a miracle of sorts takes place. Brown ends up pulling ahead with a sizable 12% lead and Boxer surges to an 8% advantage. These margins are the same as those cited by the LA Times article on the poll. We had to go 274 pages into the details of the poll to find out who the new power brokers are in California politics.
Let's assume that those who "Never" go to church are secular humanists and who are sick and tired of little to nothing accomplished to relieve the depression-like conditions. I may be wrong, but regardless of the accuracy of the heathen hypothesis, there's a certain poetic justice, a conceit, so to speak, commenting on the tedium of religion in politics over the last few decades.

There's nothing here implied or stated that shows any disrespect to followers of the hallowed one. If those followers "Never" attend church, then they're in the power packed 28% of California voters who sure look like the margin accounting for the Brown/Boxer leads (they may be believers but choose to just tune the clock radio to the Satanic version of Church of the Air).
I overreached, perhaps, in my conjecture that the about secular humanists.
Upon reflection, I could have chosen a better headline: Heathens Spank Heathers in Cali!

A lot of folks, such as myself, shun organized religion. I've seen the dark underbelly. Let the 'I own the God copyright' folks find some other racket.

As you know...I'm all about the evil.
(Is that "parce" as in "parcel", as in "The Dark One has quite a parcel tucked into his 501's" ?
As you also know, I leave spanking teen girls to elected Republican officials.
You do know that I adore you only second, after my Lobster Red Master, right?

6. My only concern is (of course) the machinery counting the votes. |
|
K & R...
It seems to people I know that Whitman is going to be lucky if Jerry downs her by single digits.
I am not as confidant about Barbara Boxer vs Carly. But have my fingers crossed.
And hopefully by next week at this time, I will be planting some weed - legally!

9. Debra Bowen, our Sec of State, helped ameliorate that. |
|
she kicked out many of the shadiest machines, uses optic scan, and then allows for hand recounting made easier in case of challenges, etc. she's great. rest assured she has made significant changes to prevent the concerns you are worried about. can't wait to vote for her again! :D

I think that there is awareness in the Brown campaign, at least, that this is a problem. California paid attention to this via Bowen for a while. Don' t know the outcome.

Thirty seven million voters. Think about that. Can one woman with one department oversee it all?
And take Marin county, for instance: you have the likes of Michael J Smith, who was not only the County Clerk of Records, the Top Guy at the elections department and held another important position as well. When I caught on to the fact that one of his paid employees was out there on Election Day 2004, intimidating voters (A felony) and the Marin C. District Attorney assigned me a detective, yet the detective, who was totally on the side of the young voting activists who were intimidated, could do nothing but send me off to the FBI, I really don't know. :banghead: The FBI did absolutely nothing, because by then George W had reformatted that agency to be a do nothing agency.
And I have no idea if Obama with his "We must look forward, not back" philosophy has gotten the agency back on track, in terms of looking into voter intimidation. After seeing how willing he was to let the Town Hall meetings turn into unregulated throngs of hate and violence-spewing individuals, hassling the progressives (We now see where that has led, with the woman being stepped on in Kentucky the other day,) I seriously doubt that much is changing.
On the surface people like Michael Smith are all charm and very endearing. But they obfuscate and never reveal the true workings of their department. I was put off immediately by his rap that he was an independent. Far better to have someone like the Republican woman here in Lake County, who heads our Registrar of Voters. She was far more open than Smith to have M. and me be observers on Election Night 2008. And I cannot find anyone in Lake County who has had a problem with her dept, be they Republicans, Democratic voters, or indies.

But we know that doesn't translate into reality. We'll see if the heathen hypothesis has a chance to be tested in a fair race.
