"What kind of coward would make fun of a war hero like Sen. John McCain this way?"
Critics Slam Vanity Fair's 'Disgusting' GOP 'Beefcake' Calendar

By Hollie McKay

Published October 27, 2010 | FoxNews.com

In addition to the images, the calendar has descriptions for each individual, including their “turn-ons” (in the case of “Mr. March” John McCain, it “varies with each election cycle”) and their “turn-offs” – with McCain’s listed as “plucky brunettes who favor rimless glasses and folksy aphorisms.”

So is this funny? Or is it a blatantly disrespectful attack on conservatives?

Not even remotely funny, says the Culture & Media Institute, adding it's “disgusted” by Vanity Fair’s latest compilation, which it describes as “soft-core.”

"This is just one more disgusting Vanity Fair attack on conservatives," said Dan Gainor, the Institute’s vice president for business and culture. "What kind of coward would make fun of a war hero like Sen. John McCain this way? Imagine how angry liberals would be if conservatives attacked prominent minorities with a similar calendar.

...at political conventions. Just imagine that someone would actually stoop so low as to mock duly awarded medals for valor and for wounds received in service to the country. Imagine that Republicans did that.

Well they did.

Pardon me, but just what minority is John McCain?

Because clearly they aren't portraying him as old, which is the only protected group I think he qualifies for....

If it's good enough for Meg Whitman and Christine O'Donnell--wait, maybe I SHOULD edit my post; I just made myself throw up a little.

8. "imagine how angry liberals would be'
I remember being pretty pissed off when that disgusting sack of shit Suxby Shameless was attacking the patriotism of disabled veteran Max Cleland to whore his way into office in Georgia.
Guess it's okay to attack Democratic war heroes...and they weren't even attempting to be FUNNY about it either.

9. That was okay, of course, because Cleland sold out his buddies and
left his first wife close to poverty and came back with all his limbs.

Wait; am I getting Cleland mixed up with some coaward? Now, whoever could that coward be?

13. Gee, why doesn't CMI ask Max Cleland or John Kerry about that?
Two war heroes who were completely denigrated by the right wing smear machine.

15. My all-time favorite in that area was Michelle Malkin...
...appearing on Hardball, saying that John Kerry shot himself in order to get the Purple Heart, and Matthews went off on her, and she went on Limbaugh's show and cried about how badly she was treated.

Conservatives celebrated Malkin's false statements on Hardball as she denounced Matthews; Limbaugh, Malkin lied about Olbermann

August 23, 2004 4:27 pm ET

http://mediamatters.org/research/200408230002

Following Michelle Malkin's August 19 appearance on MSNBC's Hardball -- during which host Chris Matthews refused to accept Malkin's false accusation that a shrapnel injury Senator John Kerry (D-MA) suffered in Vietnam was a "self-inflicted wound" -- conservative radio hosts Rush Limbaugh and Laura Ingraham hosted Malkin and gave her a forum to attack Matthews. Meanwhile, ABC Radio Networks host (and FOX News Channel host) Sean Hannity -- without mentioning Hardball or Matthews by name -- denounced as "just unbelievable" the treatment of Malkin "in an interview last night." Malkin is a syndicated right-wing columnist, author, and FOX News Channel contributor.

As a guest on Hardball, Malkin claimed that Patrick Runyon and William Zaladonis -- the two veterans who were on the swift boat under Kerry's command in Vietnam the night Kerry received the injury that resulted in his first Purple Heart -- had accused Kerry of shooting himself on purpose. Both Zaladonis (who appeared with Kerry at his arrival celebration for the Democratic National Convention) and Runyon have defended Kerry and debunked that specific claim.

The day after Matthews challenged her false accusations, Malkin wrote about her Hardball interview on her personal website. She called Matthews a "caveman" and "a foaming jerk"; decried his "Neanderthal chauvinism" and his MSNBC program's "basement ratings"; and listed the phone numbers for Matthews and his producer.

Later that day, as a guest on the August 20 edition of The Laura Ingraham Show, Malkin was comforted by Ingraham, who asked: "How'd you stop from reaching across and grabbing one of the chins of Chris Matthews?"
