Poll question: Anyone cynical yet about our victory last November? |

Rank yourself on how you feel about this Democratically controlled Congress.

8. It's been so long that people were expecting miracles |
|
unfortunately they don't just happen. This is going to be a long drawn out scrap with the RWnuts and it's not going to get any easier until we take the damned White House back from the twerp squatting in there right now.
I understand the disappointment but find the fact that there are finally some investigations going on encouraging. There is no way in hell anything would have been made of gonzos takeover of Justice with a repuke majority in Congress and there is not a chance that we would have been able to get habeas corpus back in the future.
I personally think it will take a decade or more to undo the shit that the GOP has spun and it's not going to be easy. Those pricks are now intertwined with every aspect of the Government and smoking them out is going to be like stomping roaches... kind of a satisfying crunch but exhausting after awhile.

Secret trade meetings with * leaving out any input from labor, etc. Caving in to timelines instead of sending the bill back over and over again. The secret meetings are what have me totally pissed off.I'll also add Watering down the ethics legislation to the list. Looks like more of the same to me and I am depressed about it and angry.

If you wanted a dictatorship and a rubberstamp congressional body for the house and senate leadership, the people would have kept the republicans in control...

They don't need a huge majority. They have passed the Iraq funding bills with timelines and benchmarks attached. So Bush vetoes. The veto doesn't have to be overridden. Bush was given the chance to get the troop $$$ and turned it down. What we don't have is a spokesman who can turn around what is happening onto Bush. We have let the Repugs make the argument that the Dems won't fund the troops. We have funded the troops.

2. I'm passively hopeful right now... |
|
...but we'll see how long that lasts. So far, I am not impressed at all by the 110th. The Dems are STILL acting like they're a minority, and they seem to be right on the verge of caving to Shrub and Co. sometimes.

5. The strategy seems to be: Expose as much as possible, but DO nothing... |

about what is exposed. I guess the thought is that that will lead to a big victory in 2008.
My feeling is that between Diebold et. al. and a possible new terror attack, 2008 may well be too late.

7. # 9 - No more than I expected. |
|
With Pelosi saying that impeachment was off the table even before we got the majority, I had little hope. Going into it, it looked like (a) if they pulled off enough fraud to win the repukes would take it as vindication, and (b) if they did not they could blame the Dem majority for everything they've done wrong for the past six years.
Option (b) is currently in play.

Zebra's don't change their stripes, and given what we saw over the past 7 years, it was foolhardy to think that the leadership would act much differently once they regained the majority.

19. Disagree, but only because then we wouldn't even have the investigations; |
|
Sure they're investigations about which our leadership do jack shit, but maybe at some point this will incite the popular uprising that's starting to look like the only way anything will ever change here.

In a lives-depend-on-it pissing match with a potus with an enormously low approval rating, and the majority of americans willing to back them up in the fight, and they blinked.
I hope none of them play poker.

18. Golly, gee. This turned out exactly as predicted, and suddenly we're all surprised. |
|
How many of those in the know said flatly that Congress would not attempt to play hardball with the financing? Barack Obama predicted exactly this the day that the funding bill was introduced in the Senate: "We are not going to play chicken with the funding for the troops in the field."
Did we conveniently forget all this? Or, do we prefer to live an alternate reality...

I thought we were referring to how we were feeling about our victory last november, and not, you know, about what happened three and a half years before that.
