Inexpensive and great way to make long distance phone calls
Edited on Thu Oct-28-10 02:15 PM by Jumping John
It is a feature of Gmail called Call Phone. After a small download a person can use their computer to make calls anywhere in the USA and Canada for free. Other countries are charged a small price ( I have never used it for other countries). But I use this with a cheap headset that was free after the rebate and I think it is great.

I use it a lot to call politicians and used it today to urge Rand Paul to refund the $1950 he got from that thug Profitt.

So I hope some people find this info useful and will benefit. It can be used for chat also with a camera setuo - I think. I haven't used that feature.

Here is the download page: http://www.google.com/chat/voice/#utm_source=en-ha-na-us-sk&utm_medium=ha&utm_term=gmail%20phone%20calls&utm_campaign=en

1. I use skype and pay the small fee to have a dedicated number
I also have a cell phone, but it has allowed me to decrease to the lowest possible plan. Skype is pretty cheap and you never loose minutes, but free would be nice. ;)

3. I find the telephone works perfectly for that
5 cents a minute to the UK. All calls within the US 3 cents a minute max. There are great long-distance plans out there that don't involve using one's computer as a phone...

5. Your comment reminded me of this:
At our local antique store, they have a rotary dial phone instead of a push button phone.
Owner of the store told me a few weeks ago that people under 40 have no clue how to use it.
They get the picking up the receiver bit, but then stand and stare at it, helplessly.
Gives her many moments of amusement, she says.

6. A friend of mine once had a phone where the push buttons were arranged like a rotary dial.
Most confusing damned thing to use I'd ever encountered. But it was very, very chic, and that transcended all other considerations.

7. Ha! I tried to use one of those the other day, and it took about five times longer to dial.
The buttons just aren't in the right place.
