Wife of Arizona republican charged with child molestation
http://www.azfamily.com/outbound-feeds/yahoo-news/Sex-lies-and-an-iPod-touch-land--105903328.html

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- The wife of Maricopa County Supervisor Fulton Brock was in court Wednesday morning on charges of child molestation and sexual conduct with a minor, and is now being held without bond.

According to court paperwork, investigators were first alerted to the alleged molestation when the parents of the victim, a 17-year-old boy, called the Chandler Police Department the morning of Oct. 22. Friends of the family had intercepted some text messages that concerned them.

The paperwork says Brock, 48, gave the victim an iPod Touch and then used the device to send the teen sexually explicit messages. The parents of the victim showed police printouts of those messages, as well as the saved messages themselves.

The victim's father reportedly told investigators that his son admitted to sexual activity with Brock. Court paperwork shows that when police talked to the victim, he said the sexual activity had been going on for three years, starting when he was just 14. The teen said he and Brock had trysts in her car, at her home and at her mother's home.

There's a joke in there somewhere about the iPod Touch.

1. That's just sick.
If someone did that to my 17 yr. old son, I'd probably lose it.

Child molestation? No. Not even close.

7. 17 years of age is considered a minor in Arizona
So the charge seems appropriate, depending on the constellation of conduct that fits under the legal definition of molestation according to Arizona law.

15. A 14 year old is not a "child."
I can name you quite a lot of people who were sexually active at 14 and even younger, including my ex-girlfriend. That's pretty normal these days. Not agreeing with that doesn't make it synonymous with child molestation. Statutory rape, okay. Child molestation? I don't believe you can make that case when you're talking about a sexually mature teenager who was actively interested in pursuing sexual interaction. Whether it's wrong or not doesn't excuse overstating the charges. Unless there's evidence that she forced or conned the boy into it, a statutory rape charge will do.

16. Kids fooling around with each other is a lot different than a 45-year-old woman and a 14-year-old
boy. At 14, it's possible that a child molestation charge was appropriate.

6. 17? Child molestation? Really?
When I was 17 I would have seduced her, not the other way around.

And the "I would have LOVED this when I was that age" starts in this thread at post No. 6.

12. Older Women and Teenage Boys
I know the victim's mother has more to do with prosecuting the case than the father. At 17 it would not be much of an issue in any other scenario unless the victim was female. Since the defendant is the wife of Maricopa County Supervisor Fulton Brock, who is a Republican, well, that pretty much tells the story in this political season. The prosecutor should be well prepared to deal with the counter argument that the boy was forced, coached or bribed into saying that he was having sexual relations with the defendant since he was 14-years-old.

What a stretch - she was having sex with the kid from he was 14. This is about the law not politics.

14. I live in Phoenix, grew up near Chandler--which is Mormon country.
And the Brocks are Mormons.

This is not going to smooth over, believe it. The Maricopa county Board of Supervisors is already under huge fire for corruption allegations.
