Poll question: Meek, Crist, And Rubio
Edited on Thu Oct-28-10 06:31 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
Let me preface my remarks by saying that I voted for Kendrick Meek. I voted last Sunday at the Seminole County Library in Casselberry, Florida. I thought more about that vote than any vote I cast since I cast my first vote for Bob Graham in his gubernatorial primary campaign against Robert Shevin in 1978. I always vote for the Democrat when there is a Democrat on the ballot. The only time I didn't vote for the Democrat was in 1998 when then Democratic Secretary Of Agriculture Charles H. Bronson endorsed Jeb Bush in his gubernatorial race against Buddy MacKay. I left the ballot blank. That was my way of punishing him. He won anyway. I am a yellow dog Democrat. I would vote for a yellow dog if it ran as a Democrat,

At the time I voted it appeared both Meek and Crist were sure losers so I could just vote my conscience however if my vote came down to voting for Crist to stop Rubio or casting a quixotic vote for Meek I would have voted for Crist.

In the unlikely scenario Rubio had 2,000,000 votes, Crist had 1,999,999 vote and Meek had 1,000,000 votes and you could force a runoff because the race was tied who would you vote for?

1. In that scenario...
Meek wouldn't be on the runoff ballot. It would be Rubio and Crist, so I'd vote for Crist without batting an eye.

2. Guilty of supporting the non teabagger with a better chance of winning.
Guilty and damned ashamed. Fearing a teabagger more than wanting a Democrat. Yep, this election is about fear.

3. Does it really matter?
It's Florida. If the Bush Crime Family wants the election stolen, it's going to be stolen. So any scenario where Crist would win by one vote (or "force a runoff") Only makes that theft easier for them.

4. I'm happy that Meek stayed in the race this far, but--at this point, even I
would hold my nose and vote for Crist.

But let me repeat, unequivocally, I'm glad Meek stayed in the race. At this point, I would love to see him offer a polite, gentleman's endorsement of Crist, though.

9. I don't think so.

Charlie Crist is a lifetime member of the NAACP and very popular amongst the African American population down there.

Some have even called him the "first black governor."

Don't just assume that if Meek dropped out that they'd all stay home.

You make it sound like African Americans are racist and would only vote for "their own." As Bill Clinton proved, there's much more to it than mere race. Most African Americans know the teabaggers are bad news, and will vote accordingly.

6. I wish Clinton, and then Clinton, Crist, and Meek
could strike a deal in which Meek would throw his supporters to Crist with Crist's promise to caucus with Democrats and Clinton's promise to use his influence to help Meek in his next Democratic run for office. Meek is still young. He's had a lot of good visibility in his run against Crist and Rubio. He could become a strong force in Florida politics. But we absolutely don't need Rubio.

7. I am very impressed with Meek.
I really hope that he stays in politics because he has so much to offer. Having said that however, looking at the polls as they now stand it looks like I have no choice but to vote for Crist. I'm afraid that is our only chance to defeat Rubio. I wasn't totally unhappy with Crist as Governor, as I was with Jeb. I am really frightened that the teabagger Rubio will be elected and my only weapon against that is my vote. If I vote for Meek, for sure Rubio will be elected. If I vote for Crist, there is a chance Ruio will not be elected.

8. i refuse to vote on this question
I refuse to vote on this question for reasons that would take me 2 long to explain. I am on the verge of a tirade at this moment, I feel like I am ready to explode. This conversation Democrats have been having about who they are going to support in the election, this is mind boggling to me. There are two Republicans and 1 Democrat in this race. Ken Meeks is super intelligent, passionate...I could go on and on about this man... who personifies progressive ideals. He is the only pro choice candidate. The only pro environment candidate. The fact that we are wasting our time, and distracting attention from a very fine candidate who deserves our help, not our sideline grumblings...is has truly hurt Kendrick in the race. This is the time when we can be talking about what we can do to help...call your grandparents in Florida and explain to them how important this race is. Meeks is the only one who defends health care reform, the other two Republicans want to repeal it.

11. I am an independent and I'm voting for Meek.
Don't vote for Crist. That will only help Rubio. My advice to democrats: Don't vote for Crist!! Vote for Meek!!

I am an independent. Sometimes I vote Republican, sometimes I vote Democrat, sometimes third party. I am voting for Meek.

I was happy to see that Meek won the democratic primary. He is my favorite person in Florida politics. And if he were to run for governor in the future, I'd vote for him.

I tried to vote in this poll, but couldn't because I've registered after the poll started.
