Proud Democrat died the other day......aged 103
Edited on Thu Oct-28-10 11:09 PM by Historic NY
I wasn't going to post anything but my Uncle died the other day a "Proud Democrat" to the end. He cames here at age 5 with his mother from Italy. I learned today another Italian family already here taught him to write and speak english. He never exhibited a trace of an accent. He was a sharped dress man before it was vogue he could easily blend a plaid, with a stripe or a paisley. :wow: Apparently it was his trade mark as his many friend posted pictures of him all got up in them. He went to work at age 14 for Roland Harriman a wealthy man and stayed with the family for 63 yrs. He and my Aunt Lea as he like to called her worked for them and were considered part of the family. My uncle was a true conversationalist he was at the top of his game when discussing politics...as I recall..."well you know" many time. He was always current on events up to the last few weeks as I am told. Today a local pastor of a church not of his denomination came she couldn't figure why Joe was so generous to her church over the years. A relative solved that by telling her his house used to be across from the church. He sold it to the school for expansion. My Uncle was asked to give a speech for Gov. Harriman's nomination for re-election in 1957. I know over the years he touch voices and arms with many people far above his station in life with an ease. He served his community proudly. He wrote his own obit...of course he kept it low key, his was like that. He wasn't high tech a letter writer with beautiful penmanship he like to say it was his way of checking in with the folks. He was just my Uncle Joe. I'm willing to even bet his vote gets counted this Nov. for our next governor.

2. Did he vote for Al Smith in 1928?
He would have been old enough to.
