We Need More Jerry Browns. He's Showing Democrats How They Should Be Running for Office.
Edited on Thu Oct-28-10 10:54 PM by David Zephyr
If we had more candidates like Jerry Brown, we'd own the mid-terms.

Jerry Brown did not throw Latinos or minorities under the bus to gain favor with whites.

Jerry Brown did not shy away from standing with LBGT Californians on marriage and, as Attorney General he flatly refused to defend Prop 8 while running for election.

Jerry Brown did not run away from his environmental record, his past, who he was or is.

Jerry Brown still claims he is opposed to the death penalty in the middle of the friggin' election.

Jerry Brown, a Catholic, did not run away from his long support of women's right to choose. Or pretend he was troubled by it.

Jerry Brown stood proudly with unions! Proudly!

I could go on and on, but the point is, he did not run away from being a progressive Democrat.

And because HE STANDS FOR SOMETHING, he is going to have a landslide victory even though nearly 1/4 Billion Dollars was spent against him (more than George Bush's 2 presidential campaigns and in one single state).

Jerry is not a coward. Jerry Brown is a fighter.

And Americans respect that.

There's a lesson there for Democrats who run from being Democrats: when you do it, you lose.

And if you are a liberal, then be proud of it, stand up for it...and you win!

We need more Jerry Browns!

You'd think that's the least Ms Whitman would have brought away from her experience at Ebay. . .

2. Kendrick Meek is the same , but FLorida is not as liberal
sometimes what works in one place wont work so well in another.

but where Dems can learn from Jerry Brown is the kick ass ads . he had far less resources than Whitman who has unlimited. but the quality of Brown's ads were WAYYYYY better than anything.

Now some ( J Stew) seem to think that's negative campaigning. As I if you can't tell people things actually said, done and campaigned on by your opponent and contrast those to your believes. For those people I don't understand what people are suppose to run on.

8. He ran a nearly flawless campaign
but so did, for instance, Russ Feingold. He does have the good fortune of Arnold being governor now and unpopular vs the disaster Feingold is fighting in Wisconsin. In addition, his campaign has probably helped save Boxer which is also nice. I am glad Brown is winning. I worry about my state House and Senate here but at least our statewide offices aren't up until 2012 when Obama will be on the ballot again.

13. i live in OHIO...
if you stand up as a liberal you are beaten by 17 points....i hate to say it folks, but suddenly tonight after listening to Rhandi and reading posts here and on Huffpo, it is hitting me like a ton of bricks, we are fucked. even if the dems do keep the house and senate, there is no hope whatsoever for the future unless we overturn the citizens united decision.

a quote from a poster on huffpo:

I find it astonishing that two of the states hit hardest by the Bush Depression, Michigan & Ohio, are polling in a big way for Republicans. It just goes to show how ill-informed the US electorate has become. A population this ignorant cannot lay claim to the tradition of government by the people, of the people and for the people. We have become a nation of angry and bewildered idiots; spoon-fed an endless sewage of lies and hate speech by millionaire "populists" shouting from corporate-owned radio and tv stations.
It's very sad to watch the final slide of our republic into an oligarchy, where the obscenely rich get ALL the wealth and power while everyone else is a slave, living on starvation wages or no wages at all.
The Great American Experiment has come to its end. The bad guys have finally won. We held them off for awhile with Teddy Roosevelt & FDR... but in the end, after they took over the Supreme Court which interfered in a state vote recount during the 2000 presidential election, installing a Halliburton CEO and his little puppet as our rulers. As the final nail in the coffin of our once great republic, this radical activist court (with two new far-right corporatist justices, thanks to the previous administration they put in power) overturned a century of firmly established campaign finance law, and gave corporations and fascismo billionaires like the Koch brothers the green light to flood our political system with unlimited extortion and lies.

While CA is socially liberal, they do go for the 'fiscal conservative' thing in the cities, and the rural areas might as well be Arkansas.

67. He could.
Jerry didn't just decide to run for Governor one day. He has spent a lot of time, money and effort building support over the years. A progressive who works, raises money, and runs a good campaign with the right message can win in other states like OH or PA. Brown is no more liberal than Ohio Senators like Howard Metzenbaum, John Glenn, or even Sherrod Brown. Others like Tom Harkin prove it can be done, but it takes a lot of organizing.

... like he put in place before Reagan tore it down. Then there would be at least a group of Americans that are a little more on an even playing field with Indians, who get their bachelor's degrees free now in India. And perhaps then Silicon Valley could once again regain its leadership in terms of being the biggest high tech center again like it was before the Bush administration when Bangalore took away that spot.

That's slang from a golden oldie. I remember him well from the old days. Truly this is so lacking in today's politicians. They were rare then too but, not like now. Jerry will not live or die if he loses. The other - not at all, we see pure ego, not patriotism.

My main hope is that he doesn't veto Single-Payer when it comes to the governor's desk again...

Or that the fact that he may NOT veto Single-Payer might scare some of the Dems in the Legislature into changing their votes to "no" since if they pass it again (for the 5th time), it would actually go into effect...

Can't trust those Democrats...

On edit: In other words, Jerry Brown ain't no Barack Obama :hide: :)
