1. If we keep the House, I doubt Nancy Pelosi is going anywhere. |
|
You have to have the majority of Dems vote for you and it has more to do with having been there a long time and being well liked by others then anything else.

8. It would depend how far the Blue Dogs would be willing to go, the Speaker is elected |
|
by the whole House.
Several House Democrats and candidates have stated they will not vote Pelosi for Speaker, whether that means the internal caucus race, or the vote before the whole House is important. A vote for any candidate but Pelosi or even an abstention could potentially give Republicans the opportunity to rule with a plurality, so they might as well switch sides anyway in such a scenario. If there was any real chance of this playing out however, Pelosi would likely be sacked.

17. And most of the Democrats in danger are Blue Dog filth. |
|
If the Republicans do run the table on Tuesday one of the few good things about that will be that the Blue Dog caucus will be a ghost town.

3. only if we keep it by a very narrow margin |
|
and that is the price to keep the likes of Gene Taylor in our caucus. Honestly, I think the House is gone. Unless the polling is way, way off we are in deep trouble. In NC alone we could lose 4 seats and are somewhat likely to lose 2.

7. At the start of the 112th Congress there will be an election for Speaker |
|
Nancy is not exactly a shoo-in if we lead 220-215.

9. I'm well aware of that, but there would be no reason to get rid of Nancy. |

Over 400 pieces of legislation passed.
There's nothing more to say on this topic.

10. Except a few House Dems have already said publicly that they would not support her for Speaker |
|
There may be a little wiggle room in these statements, but if it is 218-217 come January, some kind of compromise will have to be made.

12. If that's true, then I see your point. So I'm assuming that these are Blue Dogs. |
|
And we'll be forced to put a Blue in that position.
But let me set the record by stating that the Republicans hated Nancy, not because she's some liberal; they hate her because she's a Democratic woman in power.
Even if the Dems are convinced that they need to install a Blue Dog as Speaker, I remained unconvinced that the Republicans would ever compromised. And I'm even more convinced that the Corporate Media would hold Republicans accountable for their behavior. The media hasn't held Republicans accountable for all the mess they created. In fact, they are being rewarded.
But to your point:
Republicans are never expected to compromise.
The Democrats are.

13. And don't get me wrong, I am not happy about this. |

Speaker Pelosi has shown more strength, diligence, and tenacity than so many of her predecessors.
The difference is she IS a woman. (And a lot of folks really hate that)

11. If we have a small enough margin |
|
that might be the price we have to pay to keep our margin. I wouldn't like it either but if we have a margin of say two seats and 3 dems say either elect person x or we become GOP, it might behoove us to elect person x.

14. After all Nancy did for us in the House, it would make us look very weak |
|
to vote Nancy out. The Republicans would be emboldened for that. And is Reid loses, the Repukes would claim victory that they not only "retired" Harry Reid; they "fired" Nancy Pelosi.
I'm not prepared to give the Republicans that satisfaction.
I'd rather lose the House instead.

15. If we kept the Senate that might be the way to go |
|
I think she has been an incredible bright spot but sadly if the margin is close she will be in trouble due to people refusing to vote for her.

21. Yes, It could happen but probally will start an anti-Blue Dog (and DLC) backlash if it does |
|
As dislike among both is high within the democratic base. And with groups like Move On and the blogs now movelized many now are worried about facing more progressive canadates backed by them. So if push comes to shove I think they'll avoid this from happening

22. They'll Be Busy Licking Their Wounds... |
|
Most loses the Democrats have in the House will be Blue Dogs. Many come from the purple and red areas where the GOTB surge will be felt the hardest. They could be in a far weaker position within the caucus and in no position to challenge for leadership...whatever form it takes. In the sad possibility the Democrats do lose control, I hope Speaker Pelosi remains as Minority Leader.
