19. I'm about to sink my teeth into it tonight. Then I can answer you.
Edited on Tue May-22-07 05:06 PM by Seabiscuit
Meanwhile, I can tell you it's entitled "The Assault On Reason" and it's 273 pages long (308 if you count the footnotes and index) in hardcover. The inside flap says it's about "A visionary analysis of how the politics of fear, secrecy, cronyism and blind faith has combined with the degradation of the public sphere to create an environment dangerously hostile to reason." Sounds like an all-out assault/expose on the neocons in power and the corporate asswipes that control the MSM.

22. Imagine many of the complaints that have graced the pages of DU in a book form
along with insightful analysis of how the roots of our democracy (and its roots in reason) by Gore. But even then, this simplistic explanation does not capture the full depth of what I have read since purchasing the book this morning. btw, I'm on page 59 of chapter 2 "Blinding the Faithful". It is discussing the Founding Fathers' view of religion and government and how that has been perverted. I just finished the passages about Boykin's evangelical tour where he talked about the US being engaged in a war of Christianity against Satan and Boykin's part in the atrocities of Abu Ghraib.

7. I really, really want to buy one,
but right now I just don't have the cash for a new hard-cover book. I'll definetly take a look at it if I have the free time to go to a book store.

I don't think I'll find it to be the crashing bore you did. Then again, I'm not one to merely judge a book by its cover (including media coverage).

11. And why do people want him to make the best seller list?
because they believe in his words, or just to make this another partisan contest? I had no doubt this book would make it regardless, but I find people buying multiple copies just to stick it to the other side to be juvenile.

Is there some kind of problem with that?

21. I don't think he actually has an Oscar, and he's a longshot (IMO) for the Nobel,
but a best-seller is always a good thing when you work hard on writing a book.

He shared the stage with the producer when the award was presented.

27. Well, you're right - *he* didn't win an Oscar, but without him there would have
been no movie to begin with. The movie won an Oscar for best documentary.

32. Then how about doing more here than waving pom poms?
Or do you have a problem with truth? It's all well and good to do something for somebody you "like," but I think this goes much deeper than just buying theh book to have something to talk about to get on the rec list here.

35. I put the option up just for the hell of it, and it only got 1 vote.
Apparently it's not something anyone's taking seriously.

In fact, the 1 vote it got was mine, just for the hell of it. In truth, I just bought one copy today for myself. So apparently, no one out there took the option seriously but you.

to read a copy from my library. Can't afford to buy books anymore. Health insurance, gas prices and utility costs have eaten up the cushion I had saved.

15. Just bought a third copy today.
Got one for my dad for his birthday. Bought one for myself on Amazon, but they haven't shipped it yet (but they shipped my dad's, for some reason). So I went down to Borders today and bought a copy, figured I'd give the other one away if they ever actually ship it.

I don't usually do that. But if Al Gore asked me to walk down the middle of the highway, I'd probably do that for him... esp if he said he would then run for pres in 08.

39. well I'm just about finished with the book
Got a copy at my library last Fri. Yeah - I know, they must have gotten advance copies and didnt know. I grabbed one off the counter and they let me check it out. My amazon copy is on order.

It is SCATHING in the indictment on bush. BUT - Al is smart in framing it about the problem being that the DECISION process is broken. That if we were really and INFORMED public (like DU) then this could not happen.

Not that he does not go after bush though. In chapter called CARBON CRISIS he talks about the failures of bush and the facts that they knew there was danger and did nothin: pre 9/11 and pre Katrina. He then asks us to connect the two. Then global warming crisis - what is bush doing? nothing. Connect all three. Who is in the middle of this circle he asks? "GEORGE W. BUSH"!!

those nervous that their candidate will drop when Gore gets in come September.
