I wish the gay kids who were bullied, could see this----
Edited on Fri Oct-29-10 10:59 AM by CoffeeCat
Katy Perry video, "Firework".

http://www.vevo.com/watch/katy-perry/firework/USCA31000112?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=watch&utm_campaign=KatyPerry_Firework

Remember how the music from the 1960's defined an era and led a revolution?

Maybe music like "Firework" will define a new era and lead a new revolution--of acceptance, love and light.

It's become apparent that the war we're fighting now, is within ourselves. Millions of human beings feel unworthy, unloved
and devalued because they:

Are gay

Grew up with violence

Are different

Don't look like the girls on the magazine covers

Are bullied

Were beaten down during their childhoods

Don't fit the mold

This video is a terrific reminder that we will all face challenges, but we have to keep the light inside ourselves going strong. We're
all born with that light, but along the way it gets snuffed out--but we can't let that happen. We can't let the bullies, and the
narcissists, and the cowards win.

My hope is that human beings can move toward the energy and joy that is shown at the end of the video! THAT is the energy that
will transform the world!

2. I also can't wait to show it to my kids!
This video should be required video for all young people. Such
a hopeful message...

4. I just love Katy Perry this days...
I think she's really in tune with what's going on in the hearts and minds of
young people and young adults.

She was raised by two pastors, and they are very unhappy with her "choices". I think
it's amazing when someone so young is able to break free, be their own person and
do it in a really big way.

I'm sure she's no stranger to feeling different or feeling ostracized because she
dared to challenge everything around her.

I'm in my mid 40's and I think she's cool! :)

12. As long as you insist on making it a personal problem, it will never change.
That is, after all, what the RW does.

Makes it all a personal problem.

Start thinking in a different way about this, if you actually want to see "change".

13. The problem is...
outside of ourselves. The problem is narcissists, sociopaths, greed and other types of evil.

The only way out of this--is if we are stronger than them. If we can keep that light alive
in ourselves--we can defeat this.

I don't see any of us as having a "personal problem." I see a world gone mad and there is
nothing shameful about people like Katy Perry reminding people that you should never, ever
allow anyone to douse your light.

That's an empowering message.

And by the way, I've witnessed HUNDREDS of people change, grow and take on the world because
someone ignited the spark that was all ready inside of them.

And please. The RW does not acknowledge any "personal problems" nor do they care about
anyone who is in pain. They sure as hell have no idea what "the light inside a person"
means. So please, give me a break.

18. Yes, you say the problem is outside of ourselves.... sociopaths, etc.
That is correct.

Then you INSIST that we overcome this INSIDE ourselves.

Nonsense.

One simple example.... gays are persecuted by sociopaths... the problem is OUTSIDE them.

They don't respond by "thinking positive" and "finding the light inside them" --they respond by demanding JUSTICE.

Same with racism.

Same with poverty.

Same with sexism.

Its very simple... make it tough for sociopaths to pick off those who are most vulnerable.

Stop with making it a personal problem.

19. You can't just demand justice...
...when you're broken down and beaten.

That requires a certain amount of inner strength and belief in oneself.

This video captures the inner strength and belief in oneself that is needed to
demand the justice--or anything else.

14. I wish they could also see what I am seeing right now--
A hundred GLBT & allied high school kids dancing like crazy in costumes limited only by the pieces they could gather. Seven high schools are represented, all kids welcome. Keeping hope alive over here. Happy GSA Halloween everyone!

15. That's fabulous...
...and quite an amazing scene, I imagine. How fun!

When I was in high school (in the early 1980's) there was nothing
like that. Obviously.

Being gay wasn't acknowledged or discussed--in my high school anyway.

Although the progress hasn't been fast enough and we're not where we
need to be--the Halloween dance you describe certainly illustrates
that tremendous progress has been made.

Thanks for sharing. :)

16. Nice, but her hypocrisy frustrates me
Edited on Fri Oct-29-10 10:29 PM by CommonSensePLZ
Before she was the "free-spited sweetheart" she is on tv these days, she was an angry chick who wrote songs like this:

17. the Fireworks song...
almost has a Sesame Street feel to it. But she's still very edgy and
always has been. I read that this song was written (and dedicated) to
the gay teens who committed suicide.

And that song you posted is a nuisance. It irritates me b/c on face value, it
appears that she was using gay as a derogatory word. However, half of this woman's
friends are gay. That song was supposedly written about a straight ex-boyfriend.
She was insulting him, not gay people--according to interviews she's done.

But then again, I just like a few of her songs. I'm no expert.
