There comes a time when the common good outweighs the pace of individual ambition. |

Kendrick Meek has another opportunity to run for US Senate in 2012 against conservative Bill Nelson. That is a seat that truly needs a fresh perspective, imho.
Here are the two major scenarios:
Meek exits the present Senate race. Crist defeats Rubio. Meek will be hailed as being courageous enough to set aside temporarily the pace of his own desire for public service, in order to keep Florida out of the hands of extremists. Going into a Senate challenge against Bill Nelson in two years, Meek will then be known for his courage and ability to look out for Florida, even when it conflicted with his own ambition. There would be great recognition and good will toward him that could not be tarnished.
The other scenario:
Meek stays in the race. Rubio is victorious, repudiating the public's desire for moderation and progressivism. Floridians and voters across the country will be at the mercy of a new horde in Congress of those hell-bent on Social Security destruction, Medicare/Medicaid weakening, rollback of women's reproductive rights, privatization of public schools, scaling back of public environmental protection and food and drug safety, and the punishment of immigrants. That is, after impeachment proceedings crank underway. People will remember very cynically that Meek decided at the last minute that his ambition was more important at the time than doing everything in his power to stop the extremist takeover of Florida and the rest of the country. This will badly damage his future credibility as a public servant and he will never be able to eradicate it from the record.
Kendrick Meek can be a hero.
That opportunity will never again be as monumental to so many people as it is right now.

Crist or Rubio is a failure.
All this fear of a cheap ass republican in the senate is driving some of you insane.
It is worse than any tin-foil conspiracy theory this idea that Rubio is gonna make the sky fall.

There is an ominous force trying to overtake the very soul of this country, and to ignore it will be enormously destructive.

You are making Rubio into some mythical monster and ascribing to him power he DOES NOT HAVE.
I call bullshit on your "ominous" force. Rubio will be a mere blip on the history screen and the good thing is that Crist will be in the same boat.
And all this destruction of Meek is NOT what DU is about.
Give it a rest.

5. As much as you seem to dislike it, relentless is what you are going to get in this fight. |

I would also wager you have not lived in Florida during the backbiting years of the Jeb Bush era, which have directly led us to this point.

And so supporting Crist now is somehow going to make up for your past failure to do a gawd damn thing about jebbie?

I have been on the fence as to who I am voting for for weeks. I think Meek has 0 chance of winning and as a Floridian I don't want Rubio. Crist has flipped flopped so much but at least he has flipped for teachers, abortion and gays. Do I trust him? NO, but he is the lesser of two evils and think Clinton and Meeks talk was leaked for a reason, us fence sitters that can't decide.
