I lived in the Phoenix area for six years, and I never heard so much open racism anywhere in my life.
It seemed a lot of people hated some group of people for some irrational reason. Even minorities would hate on other minorities.
This was less common among the ASU people I hung out with, and much more common among people who lived there and/or were from there originally.
Of course, AZ's education system being among the worst in the country doesn't help matters either.
It's a sad state of affairs in Arizona, but it does explain how people like Sheriff Joe get re-elected by landslides.
