At Rally, Thousands — Billions? — Respond.
Edited on Sat Oct-30-10 05:07 PM by elleng
'It is perhaps a measure of the volatility of American politics that a television comedy show was able to tap something deep among American voters, who turned out in the tens of thousands on Saturday to add their voices to a national political debate that some said had left them behind. . .

"We don’t have any place to turn," said Michelle Sabol, 41, a jewelry designer from Pittsburgh who was wearing a grey cap with a carpenter’s level sewn on top. "Why are these Democrats running away from Obama’s accomplishments? It’s a kick in the gut."

She said that Mr. Stewart and his compatriot, Stephen Colbert, whose show, “The Colbert Report,” airs after Mr. Stewart’s, voiced the bitterness and frustration she felt.

"We came because we feel like this is a safe place to be reasonable," she said.'

1. I was watching as the crowds kept growing larger and larger, good
looking, healthy, happy people enjoying a wonderful Saturday afternoon. Repubs must have really had a sinking feeling. There is NO enthusiasm gap, they must all be DEMS, they are going to if not already VOTE and there are far MORE of them than us. No matter how much in denial they may be, this had to be an eye-opener. I loved it, missed Tony Bennett...I'll catch him later hopefully.

2. From the reports of Metro fares, it had to be over the 250,000 that was reported.
It looked as large as the Inauguration on TV--- and wasn't that about a million?

3. I was there. You couldn't move in the Mall. You couldn't move at the Museums.
It was even tough to move on the streets. We walked up 7th Street, well out of the rally area, and thousands crowded those streets and closed them down, too.

I don't know how to judge the crowd, but the mass media (and Fox, of course) are doing everything in their power to deny the fact that hundreds of thousands gathered in DC today. Maybe a half million. Maybe more; we will never get a fair count.

Vote Tuesday.

5. Nice reporting. Hope you are right. I would tend to believe you.
And I will vote on Tuesday.
