Are We Going to Get the Silent Treatment Again? |
|
From 2000 to 2006 the media refused to cover anything that came out of the mouth of Dems in Congress (even if it came from a minority leader). You must remember how utterly frustrating that was--the media was afraid of Bush World. In 2006 they were forced to start half-harted covering the Dems. In 2008 when we totally wiped out the Repubs, the media decided that they had to be "fair" (let me clear the vomit)by focusing on everything that came out of McConnel, Boehner, and all the viper's mouths. I predict that we Dems will again be relegated to having, literally, no coverage. The corporations/rich will never let what happened in '08 happen to this country again. (Just like after rioting in the 60's, media did not cover demonstrations, marches, etc.).

I can remember here on DU every day wringing our hands because they just utterly refused to cover anything. Dems were holding press conferences and nothing would be reported. When we won in '06 they began to HAVE to cover. '08 came and then they decided that in a democracy, gosh, you should be covering the "minority". We would have given our right arm for all those years if we would have been able to be on TV for the amount of time of one McConnel media coverage today. It was as if it was forbidden to let any Dem idea out for public consumption.

3. I don't know. Will elected Dems call for and appear at marches that their base will turn out for? |
|

That's the only way to break through the media blackout. I didn't see much of that during the Bushler years. Elected Dems would have to embrace the causes that matter to their voting base and publicly identify themselves with us and our protests and marches, in order to get media coverage. But that might (hah!) might alienate Big Money Donors. So we'll see...
If Dems don't adopt a message strategy like this you can be sure they will be ignored. But they have to get over their aversion to being seen in public with their base. I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for them to come around and I don't advise anyone else too either.

Democratic Meek, from Florida, who Clinton supports, is gonna be all over the news tonight.
Is there another black senate candidate running in the whole US?
And why is Clinton so heavily invested in Meek's candidacy? Tune in and see.

When the Repukes are in power, they get coverage "because they're in power". When the Dems are in power they cover the Repukes, because "it's more interesting to hear the opposition", or some such crap.
Happens over and over.

6. The MEDIA gains - we lose |
|
Remember folks that BILLIONS in election and political ads from unknown and international sources go DIRECTLY into the pockets of the Hollywood media companies.
So one must ask.....Why would any media company ever report negatively, honestly and candidly on issues that might tend to reduce the enormous profits that political Parties give them, even if said reporting was to the benefit of most Americans?
ANSWER: Mainstream Media is about profits for their own, not about honestly in reporting. They should be about the betterment of Americans and not profits for capitalists. The media is about making their own very rich regardless of how much their biased policies destroy average Americans.
