Why not, might as well, who cares. The rally will give fodder & comfort to wingnuts
Edited on Sat Oct-30-10 05:53 PM by UTUSN
I had the whole thing on, mostly in the background, and my spirits fell, uh, "progressively" throughout, or rather sank immediately and never came up for air.

I believe STEWART and COLBERT are brilliant in scoring points against wingnuts and it's this NOT their comedy or satire that I admire them for.

* The hokey street theater flavor will be hooted at by the vicious Laura INGRAHAM, BecKKK, and COULTERgeist to no end, the way they do with "Stuart SMALLEY".

* I was incredulous at BecKKK's putting himself on the levels of a ministry and of George WASHINGTON handing out Purple hearts, and other absurdities, but STEWART actually, really outdid this by putting himself above ALL of us, wingnuts and Libs alike. He equalized "demonizing" from both sides, but I'm sorry but I truly believe in the demon content of wingnutism.

* A lot of the music was a downer and the tone of the whole show was also playing into the hands of the wingnut yakkers because the cutesy skits were aimed at the choir, whereas the only good the whole project would have done would have been to aim the messages at the wingnuts, either educating them or skewering them scorched earth, the way COLBERT did the media at his White House Correspondents Dinner. Instead, it was boring and lame and fit the wingnut stereotype of Libs as putting themselves above the "common people." I doubt that anybody but the choir watched, but the message and execution were over the heads of any stray wingnuts.

* STEWART failed as much as BecKKK did because he ended up believing his was a bigger role than what he's good at doing. The L.A. Law dweeb with his "unity" party approach is the sure sign of LOSING.

9. If you find DU so distasteful why don't you fucking leave?
I'm serious, every post you make features you bitching about "the left", "liberals" and the majority of members on this message board. If being associated with people you look down on is such a bother, why not find a better use of your time?

13. Because then he couldn't push the party to the right. Even further.
The only thing the Democrats have left is that they're not the Tea Party. They apparently don't even have a real problem with being Republicans (Crist). Moderate rhetoric is one of the only major distinctions remaining.

3. I must admit to having it on mute for the first hour or so then turned it off.
Enjoyed looking at the crowd and signs but a good book won me over. Probably an age thing.

5. Doesn't matter what THEY say; they'd spin it negative whatever.
its what they do.

Did GREAT things for us, I think. That's the important part, imo.

16. Damn right!
In fact, no one should ever hold any event or make a public statement without checking with the Tea Party first, to make sure they won't find anything wrong with it or try to criticize it in any way!

24. This is a discussion board..
The entire point of having and posting on such a board is to share viewpoints and opinions, good, bad or indifferent.

This viewpoint of the OP I think falls squarely into the "bad" category.

14. This rally was about us, not the teabaggers or the Republicans
It was about showing the US and the world that Americans are not all Ugly American Teabaggers and Republicans who would easily see their fellow citizens suffer.

This rally was to show me, yes me, that my views are a majority in this country.

I don't give a fucking fuck what Beck or his ilk think or say about it. I feel strengthened, not weakened by this.

because of his car in the ditch metaphor.

21. Did we watch the same rally?
Hosted by two entertainers, and was quite entertaining. You sound like it was supposed to be something other than what it was advertised to be.

The "choir" and the "hokey street theater flavor" were the whole point: fans of Stewart and Colbert getting together, and they delivered.

Who gives a rat's ass about what Laura Ingraham thinks about it?
