I was in an accident earlier this week. I'm OK.
The car didn't fare as well. Totalled. It was Dad's car, we had kept it in the family. :(

Going down a road I'd been on hundreds of times, the car hydroplaned, I lost control, and went head on into an oncoming SUV. I cut one elbow, banged up a knee, and bruised a rib or two. Thank goodness for airbags.

Two of the people in the SUV were taken to hospital for lacerations. There was a small child in the SUV, no more than three. Thank goodness even more for child seats. The baby was unhurt, just shaken and crying.

I rarely take that road in the rain/snow, because of how nasty the s-curves can be. I thought it was the quickest way to get where I was headed. If only's can't change things, so I won't indulge them.

The knee's good, the swelling and stiffness are gone. The ribs are doing ok, they'll take a lil time to heal. I'm here to tell you this story. I am fortunate. I'm also thankful that everyone survived, and that nobody was seriously hurt.

8. Oh my God! I'm so glad every one is OK!
I wish I could give you a huge reassuring hug! I'm thankful that no one was seriously hurt. That a baby was involved is emotionally shocking to say the least. You must be very grateful it wasn't worse.

I am sure you hated losing your Dad's car however. The same thing happened to us after I got my Dad's car, hydroplaned and ended up in a ditch though. You and the people in the other car were very lucky! Hope you are feeling all better soon.

14. It could have easily gone otherwise.
But it didn't. You are alive. The people in the SUV are alive. You lost an old family relic, but old family relics don't stay around forever. It is so incredibly easy to hydroplane. I was in a car that did this back in May. You did the best you knew how, and it turned out okay, and that is definitely something to be thankful for.

And that everyone else involved is okay, too.

Also a good thing that our horrible big government regulates auto safety, or the results could have been far different.

39. I was in one 10 days ago. Also very lucky - no one had
serious injuries. Thanks goodness for airbags - although they sure are scary when they deploy

Take your time to heal. Don't rush yourself. 10 days out, I'm still not back to myself. I'm tired and sore and my boobs are purple as is my knee. My doctor said the big boobs prevented more seatbelt damage to my chest/upper abdomen LOL .

I also lost my car - my 1996 Toyota Corolla Wagon with all my political bumperstickers

Edited on Sun Oct-31-10 07:40 PM by roamer65
I was able to walk away from it. My back is still hurting, but I am lucky to be alive.

Seat belts and air bags work. Just the safety features the right wing flying monkeys have fought against over the years.

I understand what you went through and hope you have a speedy recovery.
