Subsidies help Ill. companies cover retiree health claims

ASSOCIATED PRESS

The federal government has approved subsidies to help cover retirees' medical claims for an additional 34 Illinois employers and unions.

The subsidies are part of the new national health care law. They're meant to be a bridge until other provisions of the law come online in 2014.

The subsidies help employers trying to maintain affordable coverage for high-cost retirees.
