CNN: Comics Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert preside over a mock political rally
Edited on Sun Oct-31-10 05:35 AM by DaveinJapan
First off, why is this "mock"?

How is it any less "real" than the Glenn Beck hate-joke they did months ago?

Frankly, my opinion is this is far more REAL than what we've been seeing over the past couple of years...at least this wasn't some bullshit scam organized and funded behind the scenes to support secretive political interest groups.

Fuck it...THAT is "mock" if anything is.

This is a REAL backlash to the mock bullshit we've been subjected to over the past couple of years.

Just wanted to edit in...why the fuck hasn't the mainstream media referred to the teabaggers as a MOCK grassroots movement, from the very start!?

1. WTF was "mock" about the rally CNN. Now, does the MSM have a set of rules that
must be followed to be considered a "real" rally. Maybe people did not have guns hanging off them, maybe there was not enough hatred, maybe too many people were happy ... What utter unmitigated bullshit calling it a mock rally. CNN is often such a BS media outlet.

4. To think I once respected Big News. There WAS mockery, but it was NOT a "mock rally."

How can hundreds of thousands of citizens not constitute a real rally by whatever definition?

6. i'vesaid it before and i'll say it again. the media has a narrative of 'reality' they are spinning.
it's no different than any of their 'reality' shows. they take something that has really happened and spin it to suit their storyline. THey have been spinning this meme about how divided we all are and show people with their angry signs yelling. usually you don't see the rest of us. normal everyday people rarely make the news. stewart and colbert assembled the largest group of normal people possible I believe to show that WE ARE OUT THERE. it isn't all people attacking each other. there are reasonable people still in this country that the media isn't showing.

8. It's CNN.
They were trying to come up with the most boring possible headline.

I totally agree with your point, though. They take the lunatics seriously, and dismiss whoever they want to dismiss.

Stewart/Colbert rally as both being non-political. The Beck rally was all political with Palin the guest speaker. Beck spent months talking politics while begging people to come to DC. CNN can't get the satire with two comedians getting a boost from a facebook site to create a spur-of-the-moment rally to bring hundreds of thousands to DC to laugh at the media and how they have propped up the RW in this country. The rally yesterday was truly grassroots and wholly political but the media is to stupid to get it.

12. Way down at the bottom of the home page of CNN
is a link that says contact us..in real tiny letters. Why don't we all let CNN know what we think of them. I do. And I bet the just send my emails to junk by now. But you people would all be new and if enough of us send emails they will know what real America thinks of them.

13. The only thing that is "mock" is the "news" CNN tries to pass as news...
If you happened to be watching CNN during the rally, you would have been treated to a nice "fair and balanced" approach complete with two CNN correspondents: One being at the Sanity rally and one being at some lame GOP rocks the vote rally or some such crap in WV. And in the interest of "fair and balanced" coverage, equal amounts of time were spent showing the stage at the Sanity rally and Ted Nugget's ugly mug complete with camo cowboy hat. Occasionally they would show a shot of the crowd at the Sanity rally, but (as long as I could stand to watch at least) they never showed a single shot of the crowd at the GOP rally...one wonders why :)

14. Something also to keep in mind, Dave
Beck's rally was scheduled far in advance, and received several months of on-air advertising thanks to Fox.

They also have many rich wingnut sponsors.

The Restore Sanity rally was, at best, put together in less than a month, and I can't see any substantial sponsorship other than Arianna and Ophra providing transportation.

16. Consider first that they were one of the main targets of the rally.
Then all previous and subsequent coverage makes sense.
