Republicans Give Up on Miller

Republicans Give Up on Miller

Jonathan Karl of ABC News: "A high-level GOP source tells me party leaders have essentially given up on Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller and are now banking on a victory by write-in candidate Lisa Murkowski as the best bet for Republicans to keep the Alaska Senate seat. ... {W}ith Miller's campaign faltering, the source tells me that Republican leaders are now worried that Democrat Scott McAdams has a shot of winning and that Murkowski may be the only way to stop him. It's remarkable turnaround for Murkowski. Just last month, she was punished by party leaders -- and gave up her role in Senate leadership -- when she refused to bow out of the Senate race and endorse Miller. But she has consistently said she is still a Republican and would caucus with the Republican Party if she wins. The nightmare scenario for Republicans is that McAdams comes in second, ... trailing 'write-in candidate.'... If enough are tossed out, second place McAdams would be the winner."

1. Alaskan republicans wouldn't have been in this situation had they
bothered to get their party out to vote during the primary. It's doubtful the mainstream members would've voted for Joe Miller.

3. They'd Bailed On Several Races...
Firstly, the RNC is deep in debt. Way to go Mikey. Most of the spending is coming from the 527s...and their shadow donors coughkochcough. Miller, like Christine the Teenage Witch and Buck and Angle are not "regular" candidates. They were forced on the establishment. When there was a chance for the GOTB to win the Senate, you saw a lot of "fence mending" and some money thrown at the more winnable races, but it now appears the Democrats will hold the Senate and the money is going to those with the best chances of winning.

The fun will be the fall-out on the rushpublican side starting on Wednesday as those teabaggers who lost surely will blame the RNC, RSCC and RCCC for bailing...or if they win they will feel they have real power. They don't. Those that choose to take the big money will lose their teabagger base. Those who don't will sit in the back corner.
