Democrats pledge to try again in July to push through troop withdrawal efforts |
|
Edited on Tue May-22-07 08:07 PM by brentspeak
In the meantime, constituents should call up the offices of those Democrats in Congress who are dragging their feet on this issue (Reid, plus whoever else), and politely but firmly demand that they do whatever they can to get the troops out of Iraq. Demand that they put 100% more effort into it. I understand that Bush holds most of the cards, and it makes no sense to blame the Democrats for the mess he put this nation into, or to to expect that the Democrats' slim majority can guarantee a quick way out of it. Nevertheless, it's necessary to put several of the Democrats' feet to the fire.
Rather than wring hands and complain, Democratic supporters who are frustrated with the lack of progress on this issue (i.e. 'getting the hell out of Iraq as soon as possible') should remind the slow-pokes in the party that they were elected to Congress for a reason. Positive, concrete action on the part of the People is much more effective than gnashing one's teeth and doing nothing.

4. flyarm, the OP's point, I believe, is that we can't give up |
|
I'm as let down as anyone on this, and there's a whole sad history involved of being let down by the party. The party leadership may have 'caved', but progressives can't. Not now, not ever.

18. AND HOW MANY OF OUR SOLDIERS WILL DIE BETWEEN NOW AND JULY AND SEPTEMBER?? |
|
Edited on Tue May-22-07 10:13 PM by flyarm
I SAY BULLSHIT..THEY HAVE CAVED ON EVERYTHING...
everything..supreme court justices..no filibuster..no nothing..
spying on us..they have done nothing..and what you ask could they do?? congressional contempt..
what have they done about anything??????????
please don't tell me not to give up...or to wait for them to finally do something..so what can they do in july that they couldn't do now??
they are weaker now..
this is DLC bullshit..this is DLC..dems love corporations..this is bullshit..plain and simple..
and how many families have to have the knock on the door because they are trying to save their own jobs and asses ..this is cya..this is not for democracy..this is not for the safety of our soldiers..this is to SAVE THEIR OWN JOBS..AND I THINK THEY HAVE NOW LOST FOR EVER...
I JUST WONDER... are the dems wanting a one party government?? are they in on it all?? the new world order?? i just wonder...
well they will get no more of my hard earned money..they will get none of my endless volunteer work..they will get no more of my night after night going out public speaking for them..they will get no more of my housing their field reps ..they will get no more of my all nighters volunteering for their rally's and volunteer work in their luncheons and dinners for contributions..they will get no more of my every night going out fighting for them..they had the opportunity to fight for what the american people wanted ..they had the chance to do what is right..they had the chance to fight for truth..and they failed..they deliberately failed...
i am done giving them my life and my heart and soul..
i am done!
not one more soldiers blood will be in my name..they just owned the deaths of more soldiers..but i will not own it..it will not be in my name!

You missed my point. It wasn't about elected Democrats, it was about us.

16. I don't think even the most naive person on the planet could actually believe |
|
that anything the Democrats would've done today, tomorrow, or yesterday would somehow bring the troops home by July.
Can you tell us exactly and precisely how the troops would be brought home so quickly?

... and they can't even muster up that. There's not a Wellstone among them.

17. Blah blah blah BLAH blah blah BLAH BLAH blah blah blah BLAH BLAH |

Blah BLAH blah blah BLAH blah blah blahblahblahblahBLAH
I think that takes care of most of the rhetorical high points this time around.
Perhaps if they say "Pretty please" or "Pretty please with sugar on it" instead of, oh, y'know, UPHOLDING THE CONSTITUTION IN THE FACE OF FLAGRANT MASSIVE ILLEGALITY that'll be the ticket.
Yeah, I'm SURE that'll do the trick!
