Al Gore just said HE HAS ZERO INTEREST AND WOULD NOT SEEK
a cabinet or appointed federal position. But he still didn't rule out running for President when asked that directly.:bounce::bounce::bounce:

74. It was an extremely telling response
He has zero interest in being appointed Secretary of State. Zero. Now that's a firm response, said to a caller who inquired something like given your knowledge of foreign affairs that you have demonstrated tonight, would you consider Secretary of State or any other cabinet position.

"No. I have ZERO interest...." Al said.

Seems like a number of people here are focused on THAT response ....

39. Note to future campaign organizers for Gore...
If and when he's preparing to announce, it would behoove you to warn Skinner up front so that he can perhaps be more prepared with some spare CPU power that day and have it truly a day of MANY netizens to be able to converge on the conversations on DU and not feel like they are being drowned out... Having decent access to DU then would be as helpful as anything to the success of his campaign, especially if it is by its nature a "last minute" deal, that will rely on a lot of heavy marketing and word of mouth activism happening at once then.

That Al is psychic. All he has to do is sit back and let the Dems in Congress paint themselves into the corner of imbicility, tainting all the presidential candidates in the senate, and he can then enter the race, essentially as an outsider.

Damn canny. If that's his plan.

41. It's much more than that
Watch the interview with Diane Sawyer from yesterday. He ate her up adn spat her out. He is laying out the terms of any discussion he will participate in magnificently. He is calling MSM on their meaningless bullshit, spin, buzz words, etc.

From January last year after his brilliant speech, he has been talking about these things. He is going to frighten the fuck out of all of them. This should be a great ride.

I dearly hope he runs. But the country is so divided, I doubt he could repair it. And likewise the planet is so fucked up there's no way anyone can put a dent in it.

But there's something about Al Gore and DU'ers that makes me happy. In my very dissatisfied life, I look forward to a good time in hell with all of you. That doesn't make much sense. I guess what I mean is, I'd rather spend eternity in hell with all of you, than ten minutes in heaven with the rest of the assholes. There.

Now on with the show!

However...politically it is wise for him to wait. He has the money, he has the name recognition...he is a frikking rock star.
Most grass roots activists would drop EVERYTHING whenever he decides to announce and hit the streets in support.
We surely don't need to give the repubs time to mount an effective swiftboating against him.
He needs to wait. I just wish I had a little birdie on my shoulder to tell me...

65.  K&R He is so much more than an advocate for the environment Gore/Feingold 2008
I think Gore and Feingold have the insight and leadership to protect us , as well as the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Al Gore belonged in this picture!
. Feingold voted against the IWR! Also Sen. Feingold (D-Wis) explained why he, alone among United States Senators, voted against the Administration-sponsored “U.S.A. Patriot” Act.October 12, 2001 : "We must redouble our vigilance to ensure our security and to prevent further acts of terror. But we must also redouble our vigilance to preserve our values and the basic rights that make us who we are.

The Founders who wrote our Constitution and Bill of Rights exercised that vigilance even though they had recently fought and won the Revolutionary War. They did not live in comfortable and easy times of hypothetical enemies. They wrote a Constitution of limited powers and an explicit Bill of Rights to protect liberty in times of war, as well as in times of peace.

There have been periods in our nation’s history when civil liberties have taken a back seat to what appeared at the time to be the legitimate exigencies of war. Our national consciousness still bears the stain and the scars of those events: The Alien and Sedition Acts, the suspension of habeas corpus during the Civil War, the internment of Japanese-Americans, German-Americans, and Italian-Americans during World War II, the blacklisting of supposed communist sympathizers during the McCarthy era, and the surveillance and harassment of antiwar protesters, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., during the Vietnam War. We must not allow these pieces of our past to become prologue.

.. "even in our great land, wartime has sometimes brought us the greatest tests of our Bill of Rights". http://www.archipelago.org/vol6-2/feingold.htm

73. Just watched the midnight repeat -- GOD WE NEED HIM!!!
He is SO SPOT-ON on every major issue.

Refreshingly frank, firmly assertive and taking no crap.

America needs him so!

76. That's the thing of it
He's so brilliant that he's got solutions for all sorts of issues, so much more than a one-trick pony as many seem to think. Since 2000 I've heard him touch on many tops in some major speeches.

He's so capable, it's not even funny. :toast:

77. The corporate media's plan is working right here...
Edited on Wed May-23-07 05:59 AM by RestoreGore
Speculation trumps substance everytime in the corporate media as it did last night and for which I truly saw that Al Gore was not interested in Larry King's little game to corner him into discussing other candidates and politics, although he did say he would probably endorse someone. But hey, it would seem the people don't want to really concentrate on such important topics as solutions to the climate crisis or the assault on reason because doing this is just so much more fun. Such a shame all of his work and writing books is now lost on this garbage.

83. Yeah whatever.
:eyes: The big picture is that if Bush fucking blows us off the earth...the climate problem will take care of itself.
Nobody is losing Al's message--you Gore detractors seem not to give the man credit that he can multi-task.
It would seem that "some" are so adamant about him NOT running are the ones with (not very) hidden agendas...not the ones who know he is the answer to what our country needs at this point in time.

87. If Bush blows us off the Earth its OUR fault
And good to know you agree with the corporate media regarding their tactics to divert from the substance of his book. Seems the motivations of many here are crystal clear. And, "you Gore detractors?" I am a corporate media detractor and my response showed that. At least I am discussing his endeavors and supporting them unlike those who find them unworthy because they rain on their gossip parade. And oh yes, you all all of a sudden know the answer better than he does. How amusing.

79. Read "The Assault on Reason" yet?
He lays out a plan right there. Try and change the political discourse to what it ought to be, then if it works, run for President in the new political environment that it creates.

He won't run if the status quo is carried through to this upcoming election, but if a true public discourse through new media really does replace the network news enough to make it the foundation for all things political, He'll be right there!

It really is up to us now, and the change is happening! (And here's DU to prove it!)
